CorkScrewHill Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 With the Steelers coming up in 2 weeks and a high seed in the playoffs .. the loss of Dupree reduces their pass rush ability https://steelersnow.com/report-initial-diagnosis-shows-torn-acl-for-steelers-lb-bud-dupree/
Rc2catch Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 This is why the franchise tag sucks. Guy had one good season last year, didn’t get the big offer, gambled playing on the franchise tag and now he is gonna lose a fortune being a free agent rehabbing a major injury and question marks if he can be ready to start next season. 1

Could be worse he could be cursed with being a RB. He should still get paid well, edge rushers are hard to find. 1
Big Turk Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) Well...sign a 1 year deal and then come back and get a big long term deal. The average of the 2 years might have worked out the same. ACLs are basically a routine thing to come back from for the most part nowadays. Edited December 3, 2020 by matter2003

Sucks for Pittsburgh’s defense, and sucks for Dupree. Im just not a fan of this franchise tag I wish they’d get rid of it.
Da webster guy Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 This is a huge loss. wow. I thought he was better than Watt in the games I watched, which seems like every week because poor Pittsburgh has like 15 prime time games per year. If you haven't seen much of that guy, just think of Clowney on his good days. Bud can dominate a game with pass rush, run D and even dropping into coverage on occasion and running with a back or a TE. Pitt D is gonna feel this. 2

It's also part of what's great about the franchise tag. Like it or not.......salaries in the NFL are mostly unguaranteed for a reason. Dupree halfassed it for most of his first 4 seasons.........and then brought his A game in his contract year..........the franchise tag is typically applied to guys who do sh*t like that. 2
DrDawkinstein Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Sucks for the Steelers and more importantly, Bud Dupree. Never like seeing a guy get hurt. Buuuut.... I aint mad about the Steelers losing one of their best defenders while the Bills get one of theirs back as we get ready to face off in a couple weeks. 4

The team should be paying him for injury at the same rate as the franchise tag as he recovers, on their salary cap. That would cause them to think about applying the tag a little more.

wvbillsfan Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Figured it was an ACL when I saw it live. No contact. Just crumbled. You hate to see it.
newcam2012 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 With this injury, it could be argued that the Bills are now the second best team in the AFC. Get past KC and i think we can be playing for the super bowl! 1 1

Everyone being a free agent and signing one year contracts would be the fairest thing.(Charles O. Finley) But then players would make pennies on the dollar in that much of a buyers market!(Marvin Miller) The tag is a very small concession for a system that promotes yearly average salary increases far in excess of what an open market would produce. In an open market Dupree might have gotten a 5 year contract for the value of the one year contract he is receiving this year.

It is so much better if a player gets a new contract costing a signing bonus enough to pay all teachers at a school for a year and a top 10 salary a year for a position and then gets injured and then team needs to pay for replacement as well and can only afford bottom of barrel. NFLPA could get rid of tags but they would need to give up something else - percentage of income, reduction of appeals for fines, etc. It is something the NFLPA agreed to maximize other things.

With that being said, God I hope we beat those #### dbagz to shut up their terrible fans. 1
DaBillsFanSince1973 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) honestly, the steelers don't look like any kind of threat to me. not impressed at all as to who they have beat to this point and even the division match up yesterday against a depleted ravens roster they were not impressive in that win to me. no, I'll go bold with this game and say the bills not only win, but win handily. H2o Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 The Steelers defense is still legit. I don't expect our game against them to be a cakewalk. They also have some viable weapons in the receiving group with Smith-Schuster, Johnson, Claypool, and Ebron. The key will be to harass Ben who looks like he is 50 years old back there in the pocket. They will also have Connor and Tuitt back when they play us. Connor has abilities similar to Austin Ekeler. After seeing how Bosa wrecked us last week, I also worry about us being able to handle TJ Watt. The Steelers are also a dirty bunch, especially Cam Hayward imo. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to go at Josh. The game as a whole makes me nervous. I want the W no doubt, but more so that we are just as healthy coming out of it as we are going into it.
Don Otreply Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 This is bad for Bud and the Steelers, like it or not it benefits us and every other team that has to play them, as is said all the time in the league, next man up...
