Isn’t he a slot receiver?

From what I remember around draft time and early training camp, I don't know that he would be considered a slot receiver per se. More of a possession receiver. He won't be burning guys down field, but he'll catch everything thrown to him in the 5-20 yard range (which a lot of that could be over the middle). He has great hands. Will also be a red zone target with his size and hands. Good on contested balls as well, knows how to high point the ball.

But can he play on Hail Mary defense?

That was supposed to be funny but it does not need to.

We had a WR George Wilson ( on MNF, he intercepted Tony Romo and returned it for a TD in his first NFL start) who could not break into WR lineup so he practiced with defense and became a strong safety with good hands.

It sure seems that way.

It would be great to see if Hodgins can get some meaningful playing time. I'm very curious to see how he looks on the field.

Not gonna put Beasley on the bench to see this guy unless Bills are 30 pts ahead.  But, then, we won't be throwing it anyhow.  Oh well......

Sounds like Duke, who is still on the practice squad, I think.

I feel like far less of a Bills fan having to say this but, who?

My thoughts, exactly.  Now that people more tuned in than you and I have reminded us about him, that's pretty interesting news.  Not likely to have more impact than Gabriel Davis (which hasn't been all that much), but a different talent may add something.

George Wilson.  Pick 6 against Dallas on Monday night.

I'm not suggesting that he get 80% of the snaps.

I remember hearing he had a pretty good camp along with Davis. Think it was John Brown that said those 2 rookies were tearing it up? Something along those lines. Look forward to seeing him on the field if he can get there in a few weeks.

I remember being really excited about him on draft day - I thought he was kind of a nice late round find (but I always think that about late rounders).

I thought he was just cut or something.  Here's hoping he can contribute...

Predominantly.

being a slot receiver won’t make him shrink.  He’ll be 6’4 playing the slot too

Jordan Matthews pre Buffalo was a good slot WR in Philly at 6'3. That said I suspect he gets cut and signed to the PS and possibly replacing *gasp* Duke Williams.

He also spent time with Josh in Florida and that did seem to help all get on sync. Waiting for Tackle Touchdown but Bates may get it first.

Another weapon for Josh; 6’4” with a 36.5” vertical.

He’s only about 3” taller than I am, but his vertical has me by roughly 36”.

LB, you mean like that no name Larry Fitzgerald who ran a 4.63 in his 40 time.  The guy that’s in the HOF 5 years after he retires, and one of my all time WR’s. Then there is Anquan Boldin who ran a 4.71.  Another fantastic long time WR.  40 time isn’t everything.  Happy he’s getting some practice or maybe spot time before the end of the season.  I remember before the season how Brown, Diggs, etc talked how well prepared Davis and Hodgins were before the season.  It would be great to see both of them get some time.

Larry Fitzgerald actually didn't run at the combine at all.

I certainly agree that 40 isn't everything.

I went to the NFL's combine data site since I didn't remember such a slow 40 from him, and he wasn't listed at all as having a 40 time. That led to finding the above.

I'll be a little surprised if he makes a game day roster.  Between Diggs, Brown, Beasley, Davis, Roberts and McKenzie, who are you going to drop, if they are all healthy.  Certainly nobody from the first four.  Roberts has been too valuable as a return specialist, I would think.  That leaves McKenzie.  McKenzie is never going to be a starter in the league, but he has carved out a nice role for himself with the ability to get deep on occasion when defenses are focusing on other receivers, and more importantly giving Buffalo an outside run threat on gadget plays.  Hodgins gives you something completely different, a big guy with a big catch radius with an unusual ability (for a big man) to create separation with a double move, and supposedly great hands.  What does Daboll want in his offense?

It's amazing how far our WR corps has come.
