That was not a Hail Mary.  It was a deep ball to you your best receiver who was inexplicably left in single coverage against a marginal CB.

Except that is exactly what a Hail Mary is - the difference was typically teams have 8 guys back there so everything becomes a scrum.

In this case the prayer was answered because for the first time a DC sent 8 guys blitzing - so instead of a scrum of guys - it was no different than a pass in the first half.

A Hail Mary would almost always look like that sans the extra DBs clogging the area.

Whatever that was it looked amateurish. The NFL protects its brand. I would be shocked if no one gets fired this week from the Jets staff.

Why would you fire anyone now when you are so close to the #1 pick and have coaching staff willing to do it with you.

This was done on purpose to lose.

It was not done on purpose to lose.

If that was the case the Jets would have let them score when they were in the redzone inside of 2 minutes.

I am just glad the Bills do not have to play them. They seem like they are going to get someone hurt on another team with the way they are playing right now.

No. No it wasn't. No matter how many times you say it was. Anyone that knows football understands that.

Yes anyone that knows football understands it was.  Greg has never called a play like that ever in his history when in those circumstances. In fact that is the first time that play has ever happened since those stats have been recorded.

You can have your opinion but I will look at everything else and see that the only reason they have not been fired is b.c they are doing their job and the owner wants them to lose out.

If the Jags win another game the Jets might try to win 1 but right now they don't want to lose out.

Why put an undrafted FA rookie on their best WR? So he can get caught by the double move and let them score.

All I want for Chirstmas is to see Gregggg Williams become the first NFL coach to be part of TWO winless seasons.  Couldn't happen to a bigger supercilious anal orifice.

You have proof of it being not done on purpose? Seems like plenty showing the opposite.

It's impossible to get a ***** coaching staff to help you get the #1 pick, that would go against football ethics...

Yea b.c that would never happen lol

Gregg has definitely blitzed in end of game situations before

Get ready to be shocked then. At 0-12 why would they fire anyone now and ruin their chances at the #1 pick. They will clean house after the season. I bet Gase doesn't even make it to "Black Monday". I bet on SNF's pregame show Florio will announce the Jets have fired Gase.

Never did anything like that and it has never been done in the NFL before than. He blitzed 8 guys.... He left the best WR to to 1 on 1 with a rookie FA CB... Everyone has their opinion we will find out months later b.c this stuff never stays secret.

Funny to see a team like the Jets purposely tanking and people hate them for it.

Gregg thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. He was trying to surprise carr to get a sack since he had given up open shots into the end zone playing coverage. It was very much a Gregg move.

just declaring it never done doesn’t make it true. Though if you keep throwing on ore qualifiers you may get there

Nope.  One WR and one CB.  That is not a Hail Mary.  Just a simple stop-and-go pattern and a deep ball.  Not every long pass is a Hail Mary.

A Hail Mary typically has multiple WRs going into one spot forcing multiple DBs to play there as well.  It is a chaos play and a prayer.

The Jets played man coverage with no safety help.  The QB read the blitz, stepped up in the pocket, and hit a deep bomb, for an easy and uncontested catch in the end zone.    Greggo gambled on a sack and gave up the easy long pass.

Teams lose on purpose every year, it has become quite apparent that the league doesn’t care if a team chooses to tank, as long as it is denied by team FOs, coaches etc, and not spoken of directly, outside of in a humorous fashion by sports show talking heads. Is what it is folks.

So does that mean the Hopkins play was not a Hail Mary as he was alone? One WR and one CB (it just happened that because it was the last play and the Bills played coverage - 2 safeties converged also).

The Difference between the Hopkins play and the Raiders play was the defense.  The Bills played coverage - so there were 3 guys deep forming the scrum.  The Jets blitzed leaving the DB one on one.

Would the Raider play have been a Hail Mary if there had been 2 additional deep safeties that converged on the catch?

I want to say it was on purpose too but if you go to Dan orlovsky twitter handle he has two similar situations where Greg Williams does zero blitz at the end of the game.

I even think there was a game against the steelers last year where they are in the exact situation with 15 seconds left and the Jets zero blitz the steelers..it worked that time

Think its a very stupid call either way...but whatever.

It wasn't the right defensive call, but Carr had just missed similar type of throw under duress to Agholor. The CB bit on the under route. Why? We'll never know. Then Ruggs with those 4.33 wheels just runs right by him with Carr dropping in the perfect ball. I'm sure those players are tired of losing as well as hearing about how bad their team is. I'm sure they were trying their hardest to finally get that monkey off of their backs of being a winless team. It didn't happen.

They basically did from the Jets D players and Raiders O players after the game.
