ChevyVanMiller Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Who is on your Stand-Up Comedian Mt. Rushmore? I could probably do the exercise 10 times and come up with 10 different answers. For now, I’ll go with Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Chris Rock. Who is on your list? 2 Quote
The Jokeman Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Carlin, Pryor, Bill Cosby and Seinfeld. 1 Quote
DrDawkinstein Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Great thread idea. Carlin, Pryor, and Seinfeld for sure. Last spot is up for debate. I'll have to think about that one... so many choices... Leno, Shandling, Dangerfield, Murphy, Chappelle, Rickles, Bruce, Macdonald... I'd be interested in what answers we'd get if Jerry posed this question on episodes of Comedians in Cars getting Coffee 1 Quote
WhoTom Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Lenny Bruce and George Carlin because they changed the industry and had a positive impact on society. Stephen Wright because his humor forces you to ... uh ... think differently, to say the least. Demetri Martin has a similar style, but there's nobody quite like Stephen Wright. The last spot is tough. If I could separate the comedian from the person, then I'd give it to Cosby, with Seinfeld a close second. I can't, though, so I'm going with Seinfeld. 1 Quote
Teddy KGB Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 (edited) Eddie Murphy, Bill Burr, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Cosby side note. Louis CK live is a killer. this is tough. Hard to leave out Rock, Carlin, Maniscalco, and Martin Lawrence. Edited November 12, 2020 by Teddy KGB 2 Quote

I grew up loving him, from his stand-up to Fat Albert to the Cosby Show. But the fact that he has proven to be America’s most prolific serial rapist - I still don’t want to believe it - means he comes off of the list for me. Quote

I grew up listening to the To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With record and then seeing his standup show on HBO. It never gets old serious gut busting stuff. He's kinda like OJ in he was a deplorable person but he was great at his job so why I voted for him. 1 Quote

thenorthremembers Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Carlin, Pryor, Chappelle (similar comic to Rock, just think he is a better writer), Seinfeld. I think there are a ton better comics than Seinfeld (Hedberg, Burr, C.K., Hicks, Eddie Murphy etc) but in terms of his contribution to comedy as a whole I am not sure anyone really touches him there. As for Robin Williams, he stands out to me as more of an actor than a standup, especially loved his dramatic work. However, his special after 9/11 was one of the funniest things Ive ever watched. 1 Quote

qwksilver Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I will get flack for this, as I love Seinfeld the show, but I think his stand up is just ok. Quote
