When you sign that many Panthers players it makes you look like you cannot evaluate talent outside of guys who have played for you.

Or they’re players you had a hand in evaluating that fit what you want on defense?

That list hurt my eyes.

Eh.  He missed a bunch, both for good and for bad.  But it's just a list.

You have to divide it up to really assess how Beane is doing (you also have to consider the players he's brought in who had no Carolina connection, and that is a substantial list)

There are a bunch of players on there who were JAGs, and brought in as JAGs - off season and camp bodies with a hope they might show a step and make the roster.  When you're bringing in guys on the cheap while trying to re-work the culture, it's not a bad strategy to lean on players whose "juice" and work habits you know.

Then there are players for whom we gave up something of real value - either a significant contract, a draft pick, or both.

Players like AJ Klein, Josh Norman, Vernon Butler, Mario Addison, Star Lotulelei, and Kelvin Benjamin signed significant contracts and/or cost draft resources.  Whiffing on them is a problem, especially if we could have re-signed guys who were working for us, like Shaq Lawson or Jordan Phillips, or gone after a better guy at CB or LB.

Most of the other guys on that list are JAGs who weren't around long enough matter.

Derek Anderson was the best bandaid Vet Beane could find mid-season to a total whiff on the QB situation and he was probably brought in more because he'd worked with Daboll in Cleveland than because of the Carolina connection.

It's more than likely a culture thing. McDermott knows how the players personalities will fit in with the team.

He was unresponsive in his car back in 2018 and tased and arrested.

My ultimate goal going into every weekend is to avoid such an event.

So far I’m doing mostly OK.  I mean, who’s perfect? 🤷‍♂️

But 2020 is putting me to the test!

Since Singletary already wears 26, what jersey Number do you think he’ll be wearing next week?

For what it's worth, his overall Madden rating is 75 which is much better than Siran Neal (overall 66). To interpret for you -- It means he has a pulse. Sometimes Madden ratings are spot on and sometimes they are way off, but usually they're about right unless a player's performance level is rapidly improving or declining. They haven't even added Dane Jackson to our roster yet, so I don't know what his is. Norman is a 76. White is a 91.

Unless you're talking about K Benjamin or Star Lotulelei.

He's big for a corner, and (not surprisingly) slow.  Probably won't work out in man coverage, but supposedly he's smart and has some position flexibility between outside corner, slot corner, big nickel and safety.   Mostly gonna be a depth guy.  If you've got to start him for any length of time, you have a problem.

That’s what they said about another CB that is on our roster.

He's injured and older, 33 soon. Scheme does matter a lot when it comes to CBs.

It's about competition and who the Bills have left walking.

I think he can give Lafayette Pitts a run for his money.

Yes, and it's also about the fact that some guys who look bad in some systems can look good in others.

Dunno about Worley but he might be worth a shot.

Did ever occur to the "Why do we keep bringing in Ex-Panthers?" crowd that this is a COVID year, and logic would tend to indicate that it might actually be slightly more difficult to get to know potential signees.

In past years, I, too, have laughed at the Carolina Express. In this oddball year, with all the restrictions on bringing players in, it actually kind of makes sense to bring in people you have worked with in the past.

Just a shred of logic to chew on.

I'm not saying Worley is going to Revis Island or anything, but I'll trust the judgement of McD and Beane over some random and often clueless message boarders. If they think he helps the team, then sign him!

I truly despise this mentality.  If you’re solely interested in blind loyalty, then message boards like this probably aren’t for you.  NFL GMs and HCs aren’t infallible and we’re all allowed to have our own opinions.

Another former Panther from a horrendous team that is allowing 35+ points a game, and if he the Bills end up signing him at what point does the media call this regime out for the inability to look at 30 other NFL teams for talent?

Outside of the 2015 SB season in Carolina, this is not a franchise that was churning out probowl players and division titles/playoff wins year after year like the Pats, Steelers, Ravens, etc which also makes the Beane and McClap hires look less than stellar in hindsight.

Not a lot of pro bowl players cut or on the waiver wire.

This is a terrible take.

You’re literally telling this guy that he shouldn’t be on this board because he trusts his GM to do the right thing.  Why can’t a bills fan enjoy the forums AND trust his GM to do his thing without ripping him apart?  His post has 8 likes.  Let’s see how many yours gets.

There are several members of TBD that trust what their Gm is doing.  There are several that don’t trust anything the Gm does. There are several that are a bit of both.  And that’s ok.  That’s why this place is so enjoyable.  Lots of different opinions and ways of thinking.

I respect you as a poster.  You have some great takes.  This isn’t one of them.  Who are you to tell someone that this message board isn’t for them because they trust what the Gm is doing?  Not every bills fan studies and knows everything about every player like some do.
