Mike Glennon is still in the league?

I didn't know Glennon was still in the league but I did wonder why a giraffe was roaming the Jacksonville sideline last week.

What makes you think Gardner Minshew can't make big money in the real world?  He may have some pretty cool talents besides football.  He has the iconic look with the shaggy hair and mustache already going.

I think he would make an amazing exotic car sales man. He also looks like he could have a promising future in porn.

Not really. He plays for Jacksonville.

i remember glennon, drafted by the bucks after EJ and Geno.  i also remember playing them that year, losing to them, and realizing glennon was better than both of them, and that he wasn't actually good.

i also remember like a year or two later the brocket launcher got drafted by denver and signed by houston (cuz he won a superbowl for denver when he started a few games, but didn't play in the bowl, and manning was toast).  as much talent as the jets wasted w geno and the bills did w EJ, that houston team had that one star WR, solid running, and a sick sick d, and lost to new england in the playoffs because brocket could not make a single play.

im so happy we don't have a zero at qb anymore.

Hou had Fuller and a decent TE that year too, as I recall

Actually I wish you hadn't helped me recall.  It really rotted my socks that HOU won a playoff game with Brock Freakin' Osweiler and a 9-7 record at a point where the Bills hadn't even been in a playoff game in 17 years, including 2014 when our record was...9-7

I understand where Minshew is coming from. He may have thought he was just hurt and could shake it off. And yeah, he probably felt like if he had to miss time due to injury he'd lose his starting gig but if I were him I'd have some confidence in myself and say, "It's Mike gotd@ng Glennon, I can beat this guy for the #1 spot."

I heard his hands are so small he doesn't need ligaments, so no worry about damage.

Yeah...don't you know that any QB that even shows marginal success as a starter will have as long a career as they want as a backup?  I mean look at Chase Daniel...the man has made almost $38 million to throw an average of about 20 passes a year over his 9 year career...

Glennon has made almost $27 million in his 6 years in the league...backup QB is the easiest position to make a ton of money and have a long career to literally never play.

In fact, it might be the only position in the NFL that you may get paid MORE based on potential than on actual ability...IE, you might get a bigger contract when teams THINK you are going to be able to come into a game and play well as a backup versus actually getting in a game as a backup and possibly not living up to their expectations. Being an unknown quantity as a backup QB can actually work in your favor as long as teams THINK you can play without having any proof one way or the other.

Didn’t come in w EJ in 2013? Christ that would make this his 8th season? Lucky bastard

Mike Glennon? Nathan Peterman might truly be up next. There's not an, ahem, very well known unemployed QB that was tearing it up 5 years ago during the exact same time that Mike Glennon was already proving to be a bust still available? It's crazy to me that Mike the Neck Glennon is still somehow an NFL quarterback.

Right?! I guess I understand that the Jags are playing for nothing in which case Mike Glennon is probably the perfect QB, but I can think of numerous QB's that have come and gone since then that inspire more hope than Mike Glennon. Cardale Jones? Heck, maybe give me EJ? And I'll ask the flat out obvious - who would anybody rather have? Kaepernick or Mike Glennon? They played at the same time! Glennon was eating a bunch of high hanging flowers on the sideline while Kaep was winning playoff games.

To be fair though the Cowboys are about to start a guy at QB whose own neighbors may not even know that he plays football. Some of these 3rd string QB options are unreal...are their dads just friends with the GMs or something? Going through the league right now and I truly haven't even heard of some of these guys. Easton Stick? It's like I'm in the 17th season of Madden Franchise mode. How in the world is Fitz not getting millions of dollars thrown at him right now?

He has kind of grown into that neck over his years of obscurity, hasn't he.

This is a 2020 photo of Mike Glennon of the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL football team. This image reflects the Jaguars active roster as of August 23, 2020 when this image was taken. (AP Photo)

Can you imagine him running and taking a late hit to the head? The back of his skull would be touching his shoulder blades:cry:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30217210/sources-jacksonville-jaguars-qb-gardner-minshew-multiple-fractures-sprained-ligament-thumb

X-rays taken this week revealed that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb, league sources told ESPN.

Minshew has had discomfort in his thumb since Jacksonville's Oct. 11 game at Houston, a source told ESPN. He did not tell the team about the pain until after the last game, which led to a postgame X-ray in Los Angeles.

The Jaguars didn't know about Minshew's injury until this week, per sources.

It is uncertain whether Minshew will be able to play when Jacksonville returns from its bye to host the Texans.

My question:   Was it a dick move for him to keep this to himself for so long?  Or would most/all fringe starters do the same for fear of losing their job to injury?  (Glennon is his backup, so I can't really see that happening)

Maybe his fear isn't Mike Glennon.

Maybe his fear is that Jacksonville ends up with the #1 pick and gets Trevor Lawrence.

At the very least, the Jaguars will probably be in talks for one of the other top guys like Justin Fields, Trey Lance or Kyle Trask.

The upcoming QB class is supposed to be very good, and this may be Minshew's best shot at keeping the starting job.

Minshew will have a long career as a backup/fitzpatrick type.  He doesn't have great arm strength, he isn't particularly accurate - but he's a gamer, takes what you give him, gets the job done.
