Like A Mofo Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) Here are some threads I could envision at that time: * Jim Kelly is not the answer at QB start Reich! * Marv Levy is overrated, maybe look to the college ranks and bring in an elite coach like Barry Switzer * Thurman might not be as good as we thought, might be time to usher in Kenneth Davis? * Miami has taken over the division, our time is up * Marino is more accurate then Kelly * DL is trash, might be time to switch to a 4-3? Johnny Hammersticks Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 A lot of overreaction and garbage takes on here this morning. As to be expected though. 6
34-78-83 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I was around. There were plenty of fatalistic Bills fans even back then. It's sad, but its a microcosm of society, so..... 3 1

RichRiderBills Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 There were several stretches like this during that era. I recall bad losses to the Oilers too.. We also got our butts handed to us by the Steelers and Chiefs several times, notably 1993 in losses very close together. 1
416BillsFan Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Not to give credence to the "fire everyone" mantra, but the Bills at that point were coming off their second Super Bowl appearance. I'm generally happy with the HC and front office since they took over, but they should win a playoff game first at least before we start using these analogies. 1 1 2
dorquemada Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I think the difference is that the SB era teams had a ton of pride and held each other accountable for poor play, right when it happened. I remember Kelly grabbing house ballard by the face mask and pulling down so they were face to face and kelly screaming at him. Can you imagine for one moment any Bills player on the current roster doing that? Allen maybe? What I see here is a team with the strength and fortitude, physical and mental, of single ply toilet paper. I'm laughing with my jets fan friend in text right now over which team wants this next game less. The Jets want to be careful not to risk their shot at Trevor, while the Bills feel like they need to prove that they have a historically bad run D. They're probably plotting ways to let Frank Gore have a huge day as a feel good story. Maybe the Jets can set a modern NFL record by not throwing a single pass yet amassing 600 yards of Offense 1

I think this is the game Mark Duper was making fun of the shout song after the game.....then we smoked them later in the season and then in the playoffs I think. The Reich/Kelly "narrative" was real around WNY in those times....but only by the crazies. Even when you go to super bowls, fans find ways to out GM the GM.

Not to rain on your parade, but 3 of those statements are probably accurate. Marino was more accurate than Kelly The chronic lack of a nose tackle was a problem for the defensive line and it showed repeatedly. And whether you agree or not I think Levy was and is pretty wildly overrated. 1 1

Actually.....I have this dim misty memory, maybe someone else will speak up...there used to be a bulletin board in that era, called "gobills.com" or something like that. I seem to remember some of those exact same topics of conversation, recurring regularly Kelly would have a skunk of a game and stink up the game: Start Reich! Marv Levy has lost the team! etc etc Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane At least- I think it's memory lane. 1
Mike in Horseheads Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) I was on a Bills message board on the "prodigy" software in the 90's. Let me tell you these hot takes remind me of those days. There were a lot of Levy threads Edited October 20, 2020 by Mike in Horseheads 1
RyanC883 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 difference is the Bills were coming off a trip to the Super Bowl, and had defeated an elite team on San Fran earlier in the year. This team has done nothing.
