Josh Norman cannot cover a number 1 receiver - nobody on the roster other than 27 can it appears

Milano - would love to keep him and keep him healthy - but how given our cap and need to pay Josh the massive big contract ?  Also Milano is smallish and has shown some consistent injuries which further cloud the decision to re-sign him

Pass rush - no pressure whatsover from the base rush package and any bliztes were not effective as well.  Addison, Jefferson and Butler were invisible last nite other than the PF for late hite that cost more points.

Run defernse - need Star back to anchor and makes Oliver more effective as Milano does for Edmunds.

The draft - given the DE age and Murphy likley leaving the pick of DE esp in the second round with a first-round grade makes sense, but right behind is a CB and LB so that is priority for 2021 draft

Roberts was garbage last nite and so was the coaching - if the defense continues to suck does Frazier get canned (like if we dont make the playoffs after 4-0 start ?)

In 2017 we had a 3 game stretch giving up 37,47,54 points.

I believe McD took over play calling and it worked wonders

Even with injuries.  Idk how we were that bad yesterday and 2nd half vs LA, 1st half vs LV were also brutal. Something isn't right, just can't put my finger on it.

Star is missed but he didn't really play on pass downs , and we've been good vs runs inside. Missing Jordan Phillips I think and Lorax. Idk what's going on. How could this unit regress so much

My overly-simplistic take:

- Uncharacteristic performance by the offense. Multiple drops (I count the 1INT as a drop even though it was a smidge behind the WR), undisciplined penalties, and some Josh plays that we haven't seen all year (Q3 int and several others that should/could have been). The only characteristic part of the O's performance was unfortunately the continued complete lack of a running game.

- Characteristic, unfortunately, performance by the defense. That unit has given up an average of over 28 points a game.

It's clear to me that this team goes only as far as its offense will take it. When the O has an off game, the D is nowhere near good enough to make up the difference.

There was a point after the 2nd half started that you felt the O would have to score on every possession.  Quite a flip from the past when it was all on the D.

The lack of any running game whatsover is a big part of our offense that is missing. And its something we're gonna need to fix if we have any hope for a deep run this year.

It keeps defenses honest. It helps take pressure off of Josh. It keeps our offense in manageable downs & distance. It opens up the playbook. It wears down defenses.

Could really go on but you get the point.

This was the 5th game of the year & the running game has been an after thought in every one. We're ranked in the bottom of the league in rushing. When John Brown is out, I would've expected to see perhaps a little more emphasis on trying to get the ground game going.

But i digress. Another aspect of the game that stood out was that the Titans players simply looked like the fresher of 2 teams. And it makes sense because they've had the past couple weeks to rest. Where our players have had their schedules thrown off & are dealing with injuries at key areas. Idk how much of a factor the scheduling had. I for one don't think you can make excuses for what we saw last night, but it had to have some kinda impact.

LB & CB depth was something a lot of us were worried about heading into the year & its been an issue early. Hopefully theres something we can do to shore it up, otherwise we're gonna be in for some rough games.

this, this and more of this.  Thanks for saving me the time. 👍🏻👍🏻

perfectly stated

if John brown wasn’t out, Roberts never would’ve been able to drop the pass that led to the int and 7-0 titans.  He wouldn’t have been in the game.  It was a HUGE play.  Allen loves Smoke.  Allen needs Smoke.  Hopefully that’s the last game he misses all season.

That was the play that changed the tide. They played funky after that,

The lack of run game had something to do with Singletary being tackled when being handed the ball. The OL was out matched last night.

Its very easy to say this shouldn't bother them (and it shouldn't) but all the on again off again, on top of when is the next game against KC being played I'm sure did affect them.  Particularly the events of Sunday.  After two days straight of all things looking like a go, Sunday all we (and likely the team too to some extent) seemed to be hearing was the NFL will be making an announcement.

Easy to say not an excuse which is true, but not so easy to say that it might have effected and/or distracted them.

McD wouldn't comment on the NFL handling of this game in yesterday's presser after that question was asked, but you could tell he did not appreciate the way the Bills were handled in this matter by the league.  He won't use it as an excuse...but it had to have an impact.

Same with Alexander, he also didn't play on passing downs, trying to recall, did Lawson play on passing downs, didn't think so?  So the only real pass rushing threat lost from last year is Jordan Phillips, but much of what was written about him, of his 9 sacks  half of them were more due to him being in the right place at the right time, rather than a great play by him.

The Bills D-line is built around the concept of we're going to roll waves of fresh players at you, so maybe your best DE is a better pass rusher than ours, but in the 4th quarter our fresh players who are still all good will blow by your tied and weary. So far that hasn't exactly worked out to plan! Last year it did seem to work with on paper weaker players.

Whole team was outmatched but thats besides the point. TJ Yeldon had 54 yards on 7 carries, the most coming in garbage time. But its been an issue all year long so far.

Whatever the solution is, we need to figure it out. Whether it be different run designs, better coaching & execution, or even bringing in another rb, dare i say Le'Veon Bell.

You know your run game is bad when you contemplate him

The OL is out matched in EVERY game with regards to the run game.  They’re one of the better pass pro unit in the league atm

That was another close loss. A close loss in the playoffs hurts more than anything. If the Bills would have lost 17-16 then I would have be pissed/annoyed but 42-16 I give the Titans credit and say it wasn't the Bills night.

You make a good point.  Amidst my anger and frustration, I didn't even think about how Tennessee played.   They played a solid game, Tannehill played smart, mostly error-free football.  Plain and simple, they beat our ass.  I do think however, you take away Allen's first int AND the majority of the stupid, stupid, stupid penalties we incurred and we're looking at a completely different ballgame and (maybe) outcome.  I don't want to be cliche and say, "they didn't beat us, we beat ourselves", but...

I think the game was an anomaly and affected by so many variables that you really can't think it will be the norm for the Bills from here on out.

McD is a creature of structure and organization and the  game plan got messed up by the uncertainty of the whole situation up to the game.

The players psyche was affected  and never could get in the right frame of mind.  Add in the injuries to key positions and the Bills were not mentally or physically at there best to play.

The Titans on the other hand were well rested and had 2 weeks to prepare for them. ( I know they had limited live practices but I am sure they had plenty of virtual practices)  They also didn't have some of there starters as well but I don't think they equaled to our  missing players. They also had a chip on their shoulders and were hugely motivated to play.

I would love for the game to be played again on more equal terms. The playoffs?

I don't actually think the pass rush is fixable with the talent they have. If they had two shut-down corners, then yes, they could gamble a little more, but whenever they blitz now someone is wide open quickly. Mario Addison has had success in recent years, but he's not enough. Hughes is their starting RDE - the premier pass rushing position - and has 0 sacks right now.

Their biggest problem is that the Bills have spent 2+ years blowing smoke up Tremaine Edmunds ass as a MLB hoping that the hot air will elevate his game and it's just not happening.

He is their version of Gary Sanchez in the middle of the lineup.

But he also happens to be their highest ceiling pass rusher..........something they actually NEED (unlike a Yankees team that doesn't have room for another slugger at 1B or DH).

The Bills have been trying to break the mould at MLB and it ain't working.   That particular round hole is very resistant to square pegs for a reason.   You gotta' have instincts for the position.   He just doesn't react like a RB in the run game and all the false steps there really detract from the rest of his performance.

There really isn't an excuse for not having depth at that position.    Signing Tyler Matakevich as his backup when he's basically unplayable on defense was a real double-down.  It's not so hard to fill MLB decently that you need to use a lot of capital on the project.

Lawson...... Setting the edge and keeping contain were/are the strongest parts of his game. This team has been horrible in those areas this year. Combine losing Lawsons containment with Milano being out and Edmunds having a poor season and you have a recipe for big runs and getting exploited by PA.

Star being out plays a role here as well since opposing offenses haven’t really been forced to double Phillips and Butler which has freed up pulling guards, TEs, FBs, etc to hammer DEs and LBs outside. Not much on the stat sheet, but eating up two blockers allows the LBers to flow and pursue outside runs.

The defense is so bad right now that I expect the other team to score a TD every possession.

They were missing one of their starting corners, starting DT’s, Corey Davis who is a beast, Lewan who got injuries in the 1st quarter, among others.....they were just better prepared, better coach and their reserves performed a lot better than ours as a result.....

of course they were better prepared. There was never a doubt who they were playing next. It was always the Bills

Buffalo had to wonder if it was the titans or chiefs next.
however it was a solid game plan by the titans. Give them credit. They took advantage of our mistakes and made Buffalo play small ball.

1) Lawson just aint very good.   He played his assoff for a new contract and became a very solid rotational DE.   Beane was wise to dangle that carrot last year and get what they could out of him.    But now that he is in Miami he is the same player the Bills had in 2017-2018.   I mean to a TEE.  So what you saw last year.......wasn't happening again with a new contract in hand this year.

2) Star Lotulelei was downright poor in his first season in Buffalo and mediocre in year 2.   He was a traffic cone.   He wasn't a double team magnet he was a single teamed 1T who couldn't get off a block to make a tackle.   He was being outplayed by an enormous margin by Horrible Harry last year prior to HH's injury.   I know people are fixated on the perceived D-line issues..........but the problem with the run defense is the linebackers.   They are getting opportunities but they are just making the wrong choices in pursuit.   Edmunds has been awful in this regard.

Keep in mind that the Bills have been running the same stuff on defense for 4 seasons now.    Teams are prepared.   They KNOW the weaknesses.   It's not a coincidence that now even the most casual of fans can see things like the deficiencies in Edmunds' game.

I like that “Overreaction Wednesday” is kind of unique!

We have problems, obviously. I look forward to getting KEY guys on D healthy and building some depth before next year. I look forward to gettin Feliciano back and hope he helps us run the ball better.

We had a stinker. It happens. It was a weird week and a bad start with the quick INT and resulting TD that probably doesn’t happen if Smoke is playing. But it DID happen, and it set the tone early. I wish it wasn’t the Chiefs next, but hope we get our pass defense healthy. I wanted to at least split these two games.

We haven’t played a great game yet, despite the record. We’ve been very spotty, but I hope we pull it together Monday night.

I didn't really understand why they swapped him out for the expensive specialist Matakevich.    Did they think that they weren't going to be able to find a kicker who could reach the end zone?   Bojo is pretty good at out kicking his coverage and launching shorter field punts into the end zone so good kick coverage goes to waste on our own punts.
