RIP to another legend. Only second baseman to win back to back MVP awards. The fact that he did it while on the same team as Bench, Rose and Perez makes it even more remarkable.

 

And who can forget his iconic batting stance, whirling the bat and pumping his elbow:

Wow, can't believe he died.


Was he still announcing?   Seems like I listened to him due "color" for 1,000 baseball games.


He was a great announcer and I guess better player, though slightly before my time.

Same for me. I never saw him as a player, but he and Jon Miller were a great announcing team.

Sad news. Seems like all the players from my youth are passing on.

The first thing I thought of was the pumping elbow. I have an old Sporting News with him on the cover.
Somehow I got my name in that edition as well.
