We did a tour of small NC mountain towns a few weeks ago. The wife hates the heat, I hate the cold. The dream is, when she retires, a place in (tax free) Sarasota, FL for most of the year and a place in the Smokies for the sweltering months. Hey! A guy can dream!

I really didn’t fully appreciate the beauty of the Smokies until we were driving into Blowing Rock. I am FULLY sold!

And state tax free in TN if you’re on that side of the Smokies. NC taxes can be a pain from my experience, though. They can hassle you even though you claim FL residence.

The state doesn’t have a single policy for state income tax? Every place I go I find some strange rules! Never assume!

In Florida you have to prove you spend more than 50% of the year there to keep your homestead exemption on your home (taxes could only rise like 2-3% per year). Great savings!  I think it was the same for income tax. My mother managed a high end place on Longboat Key and some people would give her a credit card and tell her to fill up her gas tank or something a couple times a month and keep the receipts for them! Good deal!

Been here all week, we have seen our fair share of Bills fans. Met a guy that works for Rich products. Pretty cool.

We're heading that way for a few days on Wednesday

We'll be in Chattanooga on Tuesday-Thursday if anyone is around!

Half way between here and Nashville so I used to stop often for lunch. Unfortunately, my favorite place has closed after 13 years so I can’t help you there. The aquarium is said to be surprisingly good, by people who say they don’t like aquariums. I’ve not been personally, but maybe worth looking into.

Enjoy! Hope you find a good place to see a Bills win!

We TOOK OVER Nashville last year! It was awesome! We always travel well, but certain places will draw better than others. I circled this game when the schedule came out. Bummer, but I’ll be glad for whatever we get in this crazy year. It’s all I can do.....

Yeah...I was there and it was fantastic! I was sooooo hoping to repeat it this year.

I live about 45 minutes from Gatlinburg in Maryville (pronounced "Mer-vul" and like 20 miles due-south of Knoxville).  I've seen one or two of us around town here but don't know any personally.  Hopefully other Bills fans in my area have at least noticed my Bills stickers on my cars and my "Bills Mafia" license plate frame which I'm very proud of.

It's been nice having the Bills play the Titans so often the last few years.  As you can imagine without the Sunday Ticket I don't get to see so many regular season games.   Hopefully things will come back around like they were in the early 90's when they'd showed Bills games all the time because they were so good.

I’m 5 minutes from oak ridge!!!! And I totally got the Mer-vul reference

Just moved to Murfreesboro this April from Rochester. My buddies from back in NY were supposed to come down to visit and see the game.   Didn’t get to see the Nashville experience last year and was hoping to see it this year, maybe next year...

I’d like to think the AFC Championship game will be played in Orchard Park next year!  :)

I can vouch for the aquarium, it’s really nice. It’s been probably 7-8 years since I was there but I definitely enjoyed it. Also enjoyed some ribs from Sugars ribs!

I'm originally from Northern VA but I've been a Bills fan since the first Super Bowl.   I never had a team I followed and I just gravitated to the Bills somehow.  After pretty much immediately going through those four SB losses with everyone, I was devastated but I told myself it was only a matter of time before they'd get back to the big game and win it.  Of course I had no idea the wait would be this long or this painful but it's starting to all be worth it now.

Happy to host Plano and any other Bills Backers at my house in downtown Chattanooga, assuming game is shown on Sunday Ticket. Will get wings from Taco Mac, local watering hole with authentic wings owned by native Buffalonians. Email me if interested: joeveys@hotmail.com

I was in Chat to visit family last year and watched the Bills beat the Titans in Whacky Wings. Keep you in mind for 2021, should we return.

I had a friend in seminary from Mer - vul.  He loved to play bluegrass on his guitar and he could mimic a bunch of old time stars from Grand Old Opry.  And he loved goats milk.

I have to say the people of this area are generally (like 99%) very nice and cordial, especially compared to East Coast people in general.  That's another reason I love it here so much.  In the category of probably only of interest to me, the municipal tap water is like the best in the world.  It tastes as good or better than bottled water.  When we lived in NoVA we used a Brita pitcher and went through filters every month.  We got here and realized we hadn't changed ours in over 4 months so we just stopped using it.  We just got back from Hilton Head Island in SC and the water there is atrocious.  If you have crappy tap water where you live you'll probably understand why I'm a little enthusiastic about ours.  That may be interesting to someone else so I'm just throwing it out there.

Also the "traffic" here is almost non-existent when you're used to the DC area.  You couldn't pay me to move back there.

BTW the DENSO car parts mega-factory here is hiring like crazy right now and has been for a few years now.  They're expanding their existing facilities - which were already incredible - where they make computerized components for several car manufacturers with a nearly billion-dollar new facility.  They have lots of entry-level jobs so it's not hard to get your foot in the door and start a really good career.  It's caused a major housing boom here for several years now but it's still a relatively affordable place to live.

And the Maryville City schools are some of the top in the country which is a major bonus if you have school age kids.

Just putting this out there in case anyone is interested.

Ken was like the coolest guy ever.  He got married while in seminary and his wife had to feed him about 4,000 calories a day so he could just maintain his weight.  He was a bout 6'3" and maybe 160.  He has a veteran and his career goal in ministry was to become a military chaplain.
