Please narrowly restrict discussion in this thread to NFL issues and NFL covid-19 policy/enforcement.  It is acceptable to post links to articles about NFL policies and how they are implemented from high-factual sources.

Two Bills Drive no longer finds it appropriate to engage in COVID-19 discussion in our main discussion areas. We are a Buffalo Bills fan community and we exist to serve fans of the Buffalo Bills and the NFL. Please use other communities and venues to discuss heath-related topics including COVID-19.

Information about COVID-19 is available from many globally respected sources including:

Uptodate     |  British Medical Journal Best Practice   |      COVIPENDIUM    |    Our world in Data

The pinned topic: COVID-19 - Facts and Information Only Topic, located on the Off the Wall subforum, is also a resource.   Should these not meet your needs, many other sources of information (of varied accuracy) exist.

Thank you!

The interview with the Vikings "Infection Control officer in this article explains the belief under which the NFL is playing.

“On a football field, you’re not going to have close contact, because the average football play lasts about six seconds."

The whole sportsmanship thing requires that the players make some brief contact to say "good game" "next time" or whatever.  If that's a significant added risk after getting in each other's grills all game, the whole premise on which the NFL season is based is probably faulty.

The NFL already prohibited stuff that tends to put players in longer proximity like swapping jerseys and writing on them.

That’s not necessary to be required. Playing the game is required. Just makes sense to remove any possible additional risk that serves no real purpose. Granted it’s not considered a close contact but just seems unnecessary. Give a wave 6 feet away, tweet the guy after the game, but dapping it up makes no sense (to me)

I'd be shocked. SHOCKED!...if 'The Hoodie' and Kraft bent/broke/shattered the rules laid down by the league for them and the other 31 teams. 💩

I cringe a little every time these players come face to face like that after games, hugging and stuff. I fully understand it’s a tradition, but then at the very least make players put on masks before the post game handshakes and greetings. Or if they don’t want to wear masks then enforce social distancing. Make them each stay on their half of the field when they meet at the end of the games or something. I know it’s inconvenient but it’s sure better than a covid breakout. All it’ll take is one guy who’s a super spreader to infect dozens of players.

I get that they already came in close contact playing, but why not eliminate any potential risk they can?

Close contacts to players infected with Covid can still practice and play?

This is a good question- I thought close contacts went on the reserve list

I’m so confused

Me too - before the Raider - Hurst I think - was confirmed positive yesterday there was a lot of talk from national reporters like "He might just be on the Covid inactive list because he was in contact with someone who has Covid 19."

If there is one team who will by pass NFL protocol on Covid 19 procedures it will be the Patriots. To be honest they have nothing to be worried about, everything that they do is just a slap on the wrist anyway.

I think the new protocols outlined for the NFL in some of the memos that were linked yesterday may require this.

If not, it would seem a simple and obvious thing.  Mask up and bump elbows.

Good question.  Here's the NFL flow chart I found:

Part of this post.  Note that additional NFL policies have been added since this time.

I don't know if you watched the after game gathering between the Bills and Raiders before the cameras faded but, at the very end, Josh was standing side by side with a Raiders player (can't remember which one...Zay Jones?), smiling for a photo op. The Raider was masked up but then pulled down his mask for the pic. I yelled at my TV, "JOSH! GET THE HELL OFF THE FIELD!" In any other year, I would have thought nothing of such an innocuous and common occurrence after a game. 2020 'Bizarro World' sucks and is testing everybody's mental health and intestinal fortitude.

I saw that and was like WTF. Why bother wearing a mask if you're just gonna keep pulling it down.

And the NFL cannot write the memo fast enough banning postgame handshakes or any interaction.

I was thinking the same thing after the end of the Bills/Raiders game. Too many players from both teams talking to each other, no masks on. I know it's routine to want to congratulate each other, but the NFL should have dictated right from the start, no post game interaction, go straight to the locker rooms.

Time for the league to take a two week pause, all teams stand down, and just push the calendar out to the right two weeks.  Get this sucker under control.  It's not like they have facility usage problems.  No events are planned in these stadiums that can't be pushed.

This, or something like it.

They need to start talking seriously about extending the season and building in more time for make ups. They also need to establish thresholds - how many players have to be out before they reschedule?

The NFL's entire policy so far is based on wishful thinking. It's embarrassing for a multi-billion $ business.

What I want to know is why is it two weeks for everyone else,  but in the NFL they start testing positive they only need two days of Negative tests.... ??   This makes no sense.
