FB Michael Burton had the +ve test. Kamara and 5 others had close contact with him. can’t believe NFL will let these 7 play tomorrow (at a minimum). Have to think about the risk of infecting the Lions players.

 

Update: FALSE POSITIVE

yes most likely. i read somewhere that the Saints are awaiting a retest (likely PCR) for Burton as well - so there is a small chance this is a false alarm.

Some of this is optics for the NFL. They don’t want to appear to be putting football ahead of safety.  Something like 7 players on Virginia tested positive before their game today.  they didn’t postpone it. they pulled those guys out and moved on. i get that the NFL has fewer players on each team. 

but the league will weather the storm and get through this.

So maybe I'm off on this, but I thought the idea was Friday or Saturday morning tests, everyone gets cleared, and then they fly... Why are they testing so late in the process? 

 

 

Color me optimistic, but the picture painted in this article makes it sound like a false +.

The timing of this makes me think a false positive is a decent possibility. If the re-test is still positive they'll have to postpone the game. It usually takes a few days from infection to getting a positive test result. So it's possible other Saints players are positive even if the tests aren't showing it yet. To be safe they'll have to postpone it.

 

Things are really starting to fall apart... they might just need to put the season on hold for a week or two and put the players in a bubble for the rest of the season.

Why can't they trust the tests like they did with Atlanta last week? Pull the positive, and maybe anyone who was in close proximity, but then play the game.

A few turns to a lot more super easy. Best case sure it’s just a few and they can play on. But if we want football we should all be a little concerned to see these positives popping up. Tennessee-buffalo game is already in danger of not being played.

I got the impression if you got 1-2 p,Ayers positive you still play and don’t cancel the game.

 

i understand s large team outbreak can be a problem.

Presents a real conundrum for the league. 

 

How can the NFL place public health and safety above all else and STILL play the season with some modicum of competitive balance and consistency? (With respect to: thresholds and policies for when games will be postponed vs. when teams will play the games minus certain players.) The competitive integrity of the season will be a challenge to maintain whilst being abundantly cautious (IF the league chooses caution). 

 

We don't know what happens moving forward. So it's important for the NFL's Covid contingencies to be mapped out and adhered to. Publish the plans. Make it transparent. ALL stakeholders (including the viewing public--it's TV money that drives everything, after all) should have access to all the information (minus medical confidentiality considerations).

Yea, the earlier the better. I'm sure the NFL has a plan and protocols in place for a scenario of multiple teams having a widespread outbreak. 

They had to know there would be positive tests during the season. Hopefully just a bump in the road but it being only week 4 gives the league plenty of time to explore many different options to continue play.

I'm a bit worried a 2nd wave is starting up though but it just means the guidelines have to be stricter.

The MLB also had an outbreak and they found a way through it. NFL might be forced to pause the season or something, but they will get through it.

 

They really should consider going to a bubble though.
