My almost-final Bills mock draft.

I thought I'd go ahead and post one mock draft before tomorrow before I go on record with my likely very inaccurate final prediction tomorrow morning.

One trade, though this mock draft originally included a second trade, also with Philadelphia. I've also included comments on the day 1 picks. I'll probably give explanations for all the picks in my final prediction tomorrow.

---Buffalo Trades RB Travis Henry and a 2006 3rd round draft choice to Philadelphia for the Eagles 35th overall pick.

2.35) OT Adam Terry, Syracuse

The Bills have a lot of options with this pick and its been a very tough pick for me to predict (I also think it could be TE Alex Smith or WR/TE Matt Jones), but I think they'll play it relatively safe here and select an OL. Terry isn't quite an elite LT prospect, but he's a good one and given the Bills weakness at the position, he could easily be the starter by the end of the season.

2.55) DE Justin Tuck, Notre Dame

Donahoe has a well established history of drafting highly talented players with injury questions and Justin Tuck would be yet another one. Tuck needs to add some weight, but otherwise is a very good prospect in this draft and could develop into the pass rushing terror that the team has been missing for the last few years. He should make an immediate impact as a pass rush specialist in long yardage situations.

3.86) C Jason Brown, North Carolina

Jason Brown isn't really considered an elite prospect in this draft due to his less than ideal movement ability, but if he lives up to his reputation as possibly the strongest player in the draft, he'll fit right in on a team that will feature the run in 2005. Its also notable that he has allowed only two sacks in three years as a starting C, both as a sophomore.

4.122) WR Mark Bradley, Oklahoma

5.156) CB Dustin Fox, Ohio State

6.197) K Tyler Jones, Boise State

7.236) CB Travis Daniels, LSU

Not bad.

I think Terry is a pretty good prospect at tackle and is probably on the Bills' short list of candidates.

Tuck, if he lasts to this pick, would be a nice addition as a pass rusher. It's been a long time since we've had a pass rush specialist (since the days of Jim Jeffcoat) and maybe he'd eventually develop into a starter.

Jason Brown's mobility is a concern (he's slow as molasses), but that notwithstanding, he's still a highly rated prospect at C in this draft. Some have him as high as 2nd. If he lasts until our pick in the 3rd, we'd be wise to draft him. I had him drafted in one of my early scenarios.

As for the others, I like Dustin Fox and think he'd be a steal in the 5th. He could become a solid player at either safety (more likely) or corner. Travis Daniels is okay, but nothing special, still in the 7th it would be a good pick. I'm no big fan of Tyler Jones: I'd rather see the kid from Minnesota, Rhys Lloyd, drafted late.

I agree, getting Fox that late would be a great move. And lets face it, in a CB heavy draft, some CBs are sure to slip into the later rounds. Even in drafts that werent so strong at CBs, you always get a slip. I remember Will Poole, the CB from USC that Miami drafted was slated for the first round in most mock drafts and projections, and he ended up going in the 4th.

I think the reason cornerbacks slip is because of the 40 time. I mean sure the 40 may be overrated for other positions but is it overrated for cornerbacks? I think not.

It depends. You can have an average 40 time yet still have good closing speed. Some people have to build up to top speed and it may take more than 40 yards for them to reach their top speed. Also, if they have good man/ball skills, including good reaction time, that plus the ability to close can mask a 'slow' 40 time.

True if you have good acceleration and hip swerve this will make up for a lot.
