I am more familiar with that documentary than you might imagine, but parts of it are inaccurate.  It was supposed to be "chocolatety" fingers but Pete wasn't always the most attentive listener.

 

Anyway "fixing" is in a lot of songs but just a guess that Max's favorite musician may be Bob the Builder so it is probably something by him.

That's right.  Marillion was a band that a lot of Genesis fans seemed to like.  That's why I thought a Genesis fan might be more apt to get it.
