I wonder what the copyright rules are for local embroidery shops making name only patches designed to fit over old names. I can't believe a professionally made name iron on  patch wouldn't sell well and for a reasonable cost for repurpasing any older numbered  jersey

I had a McGahee jersey No. 21 when the Bills wore the dark blue.  I found some silky material to match and made a patch.  Then I used the iron on adhesive you use for hemming and ironed it onto the jersey.  It actually looks good!  Granted it no longer has a player name, but better that than a player I came to dislike.
