Every one of our players is a concern until proven otherwise. OP bases his concerns completely on being a Josh fanboy, not on acutal performance. Josh has proven nothing yet. He has yet to prove he is true franchise QB. We all hope he will step up and improve, but he is a huge question mark till he actually proves himself in a game this year. As is with every player, every year. You need to prove yourself every year and not live on what you once did in the past. You either get better, stay the same, or do worse. Let us hope that everyone proves themselves this year when the games are finally actually played. Josh fanboy? The DT's were the subject! 11 hours ago, Ethan in Portland said: It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Lots of veteran talent brought in. Losing Star will be bigger issue than this board wants to give credit. He absorbed a ton of blockers last year. H. Phillips was terrible his rookie year but looked a bit better before the ACL. Still its asking a lot from him to play a bunch early on. Oliver is the key here. I didn't like the draft pick but most on this board loved it. He didn't show much last year but there were flashes of him playing well. Agree here about Oliver. He has to step up and be a 'Star' !!

In fact, he was a bit focused on penetrating and getting into the backfield, which meant sometimes we were vulnerable. And the perennial complaint about Lotulelei was that he wasn't racking up the tackles - just 36 combined and 22 solo tackles over 32 starts in the last 2 years (so Jefferson more tackles/start)? How many Pro Bowls and all-Pro awards those guys got? Funny you don't mention Ed Oliver or Harrison Phillips. Also funny you mention Shaq Lawson but you don't mention Hughes is still here or the addition of Espenesa. Ed Oliver has literally proved nothing so far! Harrison Phillips is coming off a serious injury and really was a back-up last season before he was hurt!

Can they stop 3rd and short yardage situations consistently? You mean consistantly enough to be a top defense int he league.....I mean its not like they dont know what that is like?

BillsToast Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 DTs are near the bottom of the list for worry. #1 is the QB he kinda sucks at passing so far, great athelete, but poor passer.
Da webster guy Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 You may see Ed rotating out less simply because the guy is 23 years old and already very good vs the run. Wondering how players who opted out like Star are feeling right now at the conclusion of tonites Chiefs Houston game. Its gotta be killin them inside, if they love the game that is.

You almost made a point, almost. Then you went of the rails with the Ed Oliver statement. Star had 19 Combined Tackles on 482 snaps. Jordan Phillips had 31 Combined Tackles on 543 snaps. Both together they had 50 Combined Tackles on 1025 snaps. Ed Oliver had 43 Combined Tackles on 556 snaps and Ed was a rookie. It seems to me that Ed Oliver will hold his own in the run game. 1

The DT's were the subject! “No worries about Josh” “Josh will lead the team to offensive greatness”. Based on your faith and hope. As most others have said, it is all about Josh. If he fails, no matter what the rest of the players on defense, offense and special teams do, the team will fail along with him. He is Key.

They were gashed in the run game in both games. They took a 4 point lead with 5 minutes left and cleveland walked down the field. Philly ran for 200+ and scored 31 points - in a windy game.
