In practical terms, he isn't being. It's been widely reported its a very short term move with the IR situation and certain players needing to go through waivers. If that's what you've been predicting, fair enough, but I don't think it is.

I'm generally fine with what they did.  Roberts was a bit of a surprise, but KR and PR just aren't that valuable anymore.  I was hoping Joseph would develop and allow them to avoid committing big dollars to Milano.  I still don't understand PED Murphy being on the team.  It suggests to me Epenesa is not ready to start and probably will get limited snaps at DE.  

I was hoping Trey Adams would be a UDFA find.  I'm a bit surprised they didn't place him on IR and give him a year to heal his body.  I really don't care too much about WR #4,5,and 6 but in general getting younger at speed positions is fine.  I doubt they see the field much but who knows.

With this past draft having been one of the best for WRs, no team should be weak in WR depth, right?

He is already off. PUP is off the roster but you have to have been on PUP since the start of camp.

Well Green Bay and New England ignored the depth and didn't pick one. The Jags depth behind Chark is bad.... there are teams out there. Giants another.

Impressive how many Draft picks made the final roster -as well as an UDFA! McBeane has Drafted well so far, but this may be a case of Covid caution. We’ll see..

Lee had a somewhat disappointing year last year with all those penalties he accrued negating some of his overall impact. Good, solid blocking and leadership qualities is what the Bills value and you would think that he won’t have a repeat of the mental lapses again.  I suspect that they would love for Sweeney to be the eventual replacement for Lee.

Not to mention that even though it was a string year for WR’s, the majority of them will either end up being JAG’s or even worse.  Not because of the quality of the draft but simply because the odds aren’t that high for WR’s or for that matter hardly any position that players become above average in the league.

Sweeney has a long way to go to be able to do Lee Smith's job. And I mean a LONG way. The second best blocker at tight end we have on this roster is Dawson Knox. He just needs to be more consistent with his assignments and his anchor (and his hands as a pass catcher obviously but I am talking here purely in blocking terms) He had some monster blocks last year, he is an extremely willing blocker and his technique is not bad. At times, notably obviously in Houston (but it showed up in other games at the end of the year when teams started blitzing us more - Blatimore for example), he has had issues identifying his block and occasionally he can get on his heels early in the down which weakens his anchor and gives the defender the advantage but when Dawson Knox gets everything right he can block. There is no question about that. That is what still makes him so exciting. If he can put it all together you are talking Travis Kelce, Rob Gronkowski, George Kittle rather than Zac Ertz or Jimmy Graham. I am not putting him in that tier of player but in terms of playing style you are talking about a guy who can really do it all at the tight end position. I said it at draft time and I stick to it - there is really not much difference between Dawson Knox who went in round 3 and TJ Hockenson who went #8 overall. I actually think Dawson's physical potential may even be higher. He was just so extremely raw and so you had to factor in the high bust potential. Hock was more polished, more pro-ready. The encouraging thing for the Bills is in terms of catches, yards, catch % and TDs they pretty much performed on par as rookies.

Simple - Because neither is going to play this year, there’s little to no risk of cutting Webb and having him picked up before he can go on PS and there’s moderate to high risk of cutting Fromm and having him picked up before we could put him on PS

Buffalo News is reporting this morning that the Bills expect to bring back Roberts and Marlowe.  They’ll probably IR Sweeney and Feliciano.

I completely recognize the potential for Dawson Knox being an overall TE talent but he isn’t so much an in-line blocker where he can at times handle D-linemen as much as he is in-space blocker.  That’s where he has shown some potential on the blocking front.  
 

Sweeney is who I believe that the Bills want to be the eventual replacement to Lee Smith.   When and if that will happen?  Who knows?  But that’s what I think that their hopes are.  No one on the Bills current roster will have the upside of Lee’s in-line blocking but if Sweeney can be ok to decent, I think they would be happy with that considering his receiving skills are considerably better than Lee’s.

Knox acknowledges all this and claims he’s been working hard at blitz pickups, overall blocking and looking the ball in on catches. We’ll see. He has STAR written all over him if he can realize true growth in these capacities.
