Look, if he's under audit he (his attorneys and accountants) have no doubt already presented their theories of tax liability. There's no reason not to release the taxes with those explanations. Is it Trump being stubborn, or still hoping to hide something (probably the follow-up questions)? All I know is right now this strategy is unlikely to help him. So, here’s the thing about the President’s taxes. The whole purpose of presenting them was for folks like Bernie Sanders to get on a pulpit and grumble about “Merbilgerbilgerbil-millionaires brable-and bribilliones!!!” so they could call The President a “tax avoider” on the Sunday circuit, trying to equate that with tax evasion, in order to cast the President as a criminal. The President has been under audit for a decade. This means that the Obama IRS, which had been weaponised against his political enemies, had been investigating the President for financial crimes and tax fraud for 6 years. This information was within the purview of the Mueller investigation, whom we know was actively searching for criminality in the President's taxes because Michael Cohen was taken down due to tax fraud related to taxi medallions as part of the probe. After having a 10 year audit conducted by a hostile IRS, and a special council shoved up your ass with the intention of finding even a hint of wrong doing; and both come away with nothing? There’s nothing there to find. 5 2

He stepped all over Joe's fake indignation over Beau, and the entire thing got drowned out by his own inability to present a disciplined message. I doubt anyone unfamiliar with the whole story (and let's fact fact, people who bother to post here are in the 1% tail of political junkies) even comprehended what was going on. Trump knew he flubbed that so that's why he went back to it randomly later on.
Big Blitz Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) The point of the debates isn't to win people over. This is 2020. The media has decided for you who they know wins and has the correct positions and will be coddled accordingly. What Trump has understood since 2015 is that these debates need to fire up your base going into the election. Trump massively fired up his base tonight. The only mistake he made was in response to the Racism question he didn't bring up Joe's "You ain't black" and the "Latinos are more creative" comments. But that's ok we all know this. Love how Wallace demanded Trump denounce White Supremacists causing all the raucous in our cities but refuses to press Biden on Antifa. Biden said he opposes the Green New Deal, doesn't want to change or see Obamacare go either via SCOTUS or Trump....but then says it has to be improved. Then refused to embrace BLM. He couldn't have tried harder to distance himself from Bernie Sanders..... And that's where he made the biggest miscalculation of the night....he called it HIS Democrat party....and bragged about beating Bernie. Yup. I'm sure the defeated true believers loved hearing that. No. Biden failed in energizing anyone tonight. And if you're one of the 50 undecided voters in America you were given no reason to vote Democrat. Trump did. Edited September 30, 2020 by Big Blitz 4

Chris Wallace framed CRT as "racial sensitivity" & 45 said he was opposed to it because it was un-American (& it is), but he needed to point out that CRT goes WAY beyond sensitivity training & it is racist indoctrination. Also, thought saying he condemns the KKK would've been a slam dunk easy thing to say as he's done that many times in the past. And, he came across as angry on the question about mail in voting & waiting for an outcome. It was another item that IMHO he is on the right side of the issue but his inability to articulate a complex thought bit him on that one. Had Biden been fact checked / stopped short by the moderator more than just partially on the GND issue, expect he would've puked over himself. But he never did that. Don't believe either guy won, but 45 probably had a bit of a loss. Doesn't seem to be the board concensus; oh well. Any other candidate would have viewed this question as the biggest softball in the history of debates: "I condemn white supremacists, and I do not want their support." It's what you say because there is no other acceptable answer. Seriously. None. So why didn't he do it? Either (a) he's a moron; or (b) he really does want their support. Either one doesn't bode well.
BillStime Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 The President of The United States of America refused to condemn White Supremacy on a live presidential debate. Trump didn’t win, Biden didn’t lose, Americans lost tonight.

Trump doesn't operate like that it's not how he's wired.

Yep, timing is everything. It's as if Lloyd Bentsen had been unable to wait for his prepared zinger to Dan Quayle: "Senator, I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. You're no Jack Kennedy." If he had delivered that before Quayle gave him the opening (comparing his age to that of Kennedy in 1960), it would have fallen flat. He waited. He knew Quayle had been using that comparison. The timing was perfect. If in the next debate one of the questions is about Russia or foreign policy, the Hunter comeback would've worked. But he knows he's behind, he knows ballots are already being cast, he was unwilling to wait for the right time, and as a result it is being largely ignored except by his narrow base, which is obsessed with it anyway.

The taxes bit is about “showing” people who are ignorant of real estate and corporate accounting practices that the “President only paid $750 in taxes, while you paid thousands, and he’s a billionaire!!! How outrageous!!! He’s a tax avoiders!!!” Which is exactly why Democratic talking points uniformly lined up that way. 1

That said any time the word white supremacy comes up like that it’s probably a good idea to disavow immediately.

You make some valid points, but your conclusion is wrong. Biden did not energize anyone (especially the Bernie Bros) to come out and vote for him. Trump certainly energized some voters -- the anti-Trump voters. The Biden vote has always been and always will be an anti-Trump vote. It was that way in the primaries (no real passion for him, but the idea that he was best situated to defeat Trump), and it is that way now. Trump asking the Proud Boys and other white nationalist groups to "stand-by" is all those Bernie Bros need to hear to decide that they need to get out and vote against Trump. By the way, Biden wasn't sharp as a tack or anything, but there was only one significant flub (Trump finally tricked him into talking about the Green New Deal as his plan right at the end), but Biden caught himself and Trump didn't call him on it. The Joe is Senile thing is over. Joe is just old. (So is Trump)
