This is goofy logic. First the team has plenty of cap room - we have very few elite players a ton on short term deals expiring in the next year or tow. Second, you sign your best players. If you sign a better player, then one of your previous best players that is not a best player anymore if not worth signing. Unless, you are saying Beane does not know what he is doing so only sign the current players because I dont trust his judgement that someone else is better.

Bills have not a single one of the top 100 salaries next year. Many teams have 5+. But the Bills cant afford to sign guys?

They can afford it. But that's the wrong question. Nearly any team can afford nearly anyone, as long as they don't mind having money problems, and possibly major ones in the short-term, as a result.

The question is whether the plan is smart, and if it is, whether the move is within the plan. And if they've shown anything so far, it's that they're smart and they've got a plan and that the plan is smart. So, sure they could go outside the plan, they've got enough cap room to do so. But it would prevent them from carrying out future parts of their plan.

It's not goofy at all, not in the slightest.

Oh, and by absolutely NO MEANS do we have a lot of cap room. We were doing all right before COVID hit, but what with the massive hit that next year's cap looks like it's going to take, we're - right now - $6 mill OVER the cap next year. We'll probably roll over a bit from this year's cap so we won't likely be over next year but we don't look like we are going to have much. And if we spent that money on a guy like Ngakoue, we wouldn't have much if anything to roll over to put us in the black next year.

No its a good conversation

I think it lends into Beanes way of biulding his teams.......except for our own drafted players has Beane given anybody a huge contract?

What sucks for Beane is he goes through all the trouble of fixing our cap and roster and then covid hits......negating much of that work if the salary cap goes down

Actually it makes what he has done even more remarkable- many teams are in a lot worse shape going into next year with the projected drop.

Because of how he fixed the cap - we are in a good place to continue to sign our own guys.

Teams like the Eagles are in a death spiral right now because they have been living on the increase in the cap to get by year over year.  A shrinking cap just kills them.

This makes no sense. Beane hasn’t been here long enough for players he drafted to even be eligible for new or extended contracts.

That was sort of my point lol.
