I mean.. Kelce is 4x 1st or 2nd team all-pro.  Dawson knox dropped like 11 passes last year.  Hes looking at tyler eifert money currently unless he takes MASSIVE steps forward.

Maybe if he had been looking at the ball instead he wouldn't have kept dropping passes

When I saw a headline that he was redefining the tight end market I thought it was gonna be 100 million total. This contract seems like a normal deal for a guy who averages 90 catches a year

Hope so,

Maybe it will motivate him to stop dropping balls,  start being a 4 time all pro and win the Superbowl.

I'm tying to figure out where KC is getting this cap space. If the cap does decrease KC will be hurt the most by it and might have to release Mahomes.

The Kelce extension doesn't initiate for 2 years since hes still under contract.  Most of the otehr deals are like that too.  But they'll have to do some maneuvering down the line.

Kittle just got $15M/yr, average.

And Kelce gets $14.25/yr ? Wow.

That sounds right for those guys for what they bring to the field.

A few years ago, KC was in cap purgatory.  They got there by giving too much up front money and over estimating the growth of the cap.  They learned a tough lesson.  It looks like the Kelce contract doesn't have a big spend up front.  With the structure of the Mahomes contract and his importance to the franchise, they would literally cut every other player on their team before they would ever touch Mahomes.  When you look at the players that they have drafted, they are preparing for life without some of their veterans with expensive contracts or big future pay demands.  Tyreek Hill will be looking for big money and the presence of Hardman on the roster will give KC the option to cut a good deal or let him walk.  They will be forced to let some veterans go, like they did with Morse but they seem to have low cost replacements in place.

It actually sounds like they are underpaid a little factoring in how rare an elite TE is.

Tyreek is under contract for 3 more seasons.  Veach is big on giving players extensions that put them at top of the market by current salary standards but will be below scale by the time the cap hits come due.  The salary cap is like the tax code.  There’s a way around just about everything if you’re clever enough to figure it out.

I don't think it has anything to do with "getting around" anything.  KC has decided how it wants to form it's team.

They want 9-10 high priced players and after that a bunch of rookie contracts and low level players.

A lot of teams take that path.

Dawson Knox should be more worried about still being in the league through his rookie contract. He's got a long way to go.
