Looking at Gunner's roster, the OL is now what can be considered solid/good. The receivers are very good. Running backs have potential to be game winners.

The defence as we know is legit top 5.

Playing devil's advocate, you could say everything is in place for Allen to succeed but also for if he doesn't take the step we're hoping for and expecting. If Allen's play takes a step backwards (not beyond the realms of possibility) and we're looking at a new QB this time next year they will be coming into an organisation with a strong set up for a new QB. Totally different to 2018.

Please don't take this is Allen bashing. I like him. I think he's a good QB with through the roof potential and balls bigger than King Kong. Potential isn't always realised though.

There should be some options next season to bring in for allen competition if this season doesn't go well.  Newton, Winston, Dalton should all be available again.  Lawrence likely gets drafted somewhere to start immediately so that could add another decent guy to the mix.

I agree though - its a much better looking destination when the pieces are in place for you.  These guys look at what tannehill just got after signing as a backup and earning the starting spot.

I feel like this team likes V. Joseph. Nothing has happened to make me feel that way, I just feel like he’s going to make the team and get a shot to play. This regime loves the guys they draft.

I agree.  He's one of those guys who, although he can't play edge or safety, has characteristics of both.  He's the kind of athlete McDermott likes to put on the field - a hitter with speed and quickness to cover a lot of space and to close on ball carriers.  I thought we were going to see a lot of him as last season progressed, but then he got hurt.  He's been through a camp, and if he did his homework during the season, I think he will be a contributor this season.

Conclusions

I made 6 changes to last time. I changed Taiwan Jones to blue because I think he and Yeldon are essentially in a battle for the 3rd running back position - the receiving back if you like. And Jones has a definite edge because he has won the job as the starting gunner by all accounts and those back of the roster battles come down to special teams prowess as well we all know. Daryl Williams I changed from blue to black because in all the reports from camp it does feel as though he has spent plenty of time with the first team unit (in so much as we can gather from the pieces of information we get). I think he has a very good shot at being the starting right tackle. Barring injury he has made the team. Trent Murphy I have gone to blue because we know from Brown's faux pas that he has been ahead of Addison with the first team unit in certain packages. I still think his cap number means he is a guy the Bills will have a conversation about when cut downs come, but ultimately I think he now more likely than not makes the squad. Siran Neal I got wrong the first time. He should really have been blue not red, and again, when I factor in positional flex (nickel, safety, the dime) and the comments about his performance on special teams I can't see a way he doesn't make it. Finally the two specialists..... some will wonder why I have only been willing to go from red to blue and not black as the competition has all been cut from the roster suggesting that England have very much settled on their kicker and punter. I think that both are absolutely in black to make the 53 on cut down day..... but I still think the Bills will have an eye on who else shakes loose at the specialist spots when other teams make cuts. And while I think Bass and Bojo are likely on our opening day 53 I don't consider either to be a lock quite yet. We still need better production from both spots than there has been in camp based on the reports.

I think Yeldon and Bates should be blue, and I also think Bass and Bojo have locked it down.

So you think they keep 4 backs?

Actually 5. Motor, Moss, Yeldon, Jones, and a FB.

Nsekhe is a lock IMO.

He's had a good camp and is the likely swing tackle in case Dawkins goes down.   He also has trade value, but I think they carry extra OL this year due to the COVID-19 issue.

Matakevich is also a lock, barring a LB trade or waiver wire pick up.

This is my guess for offense and what I know for the specialists.  The defense I don't have a good read on so I'm not going to bother.

QB-Allen, Fromm (surprise move, Barkley +/- Webb likely won't be poached and can be placed on PS to help Josh)

RB-Singletary, Moss, Jones (Wade similarly can be put on PS)

FB-Gilliam (DiMarco has been injured and is getting old)

TE-Knox, Kroft, Smith, Croom (Sweeney on PUP)

OL-Dawkins, Spain, Morse, Ford, Williams, Nsekhe, Winter, Bates, Feliciano (IR-R after first game and they bring back one of the cuts)

WR-Diggs, Brown, Beasley, Davis, Roberts, Duke (Hodgins and McK can probably be PS'd and Foster probably IR'd)

Now I could see Lee Smith being cut and them keeping an extra WR.

Specialists-Reid, Bojo, Bass

Come at me!

I don't think Duke makes it and I definitely think they keep 3 Quarterbacks but I did toy with the idea Barkley isn't absolutely locked in so I don't hate it.

I struggled with the 6th WR spot.  Again it was more of a "who can they cut and get back onto the PS" thing and McK was an UFA and didn't get any offers and Hodgins is a 7th round rookie.

As for QB's, if they keep 3, that would make 26 offensive players which, when taken with the 3 specialists, gives them just 24 spots for defensive players.  I can't see that few defensive players being kept.  The only position from which to take a player is TE, but I think they want to keep 4.  So my decision was based on is more likely to get poached: Fromm or Barkley (or Webb)?

I think they will have 2 QBs on the active roster and 2 QBs in the PS. I think they will have an extra K and P on the PS too.

I think Bates will make it because there is an extra roster spot for o-line this year. For the receivers Daboll loves McKenzke so I think he is still here. With the other extra roster spot my gut tells me they use it on defense so I'm not expecting a 7th WR. I think they will try to stash Hodgins on the practice squad.

No way do I see them chosing Fromm over Barkley.

From all the reports I've seen, Fromm has done very little in camp while Barkley has been Barkley--a competent NFL back up who knows what he's supposed to do and can occasionally do it.    I'm not even convinced Fromm makes the PS, let alone the roster...

If he's done little then yes, I can see them keeping Barkley.  But I'm sure he'll make the PS.

Per Sal the best of the QBs not name Josh Allen has been Davis Webb. I just can't see a way he gets kept.

Then maybe the surprise is Davis Webb on the 53?
