Ross Tucker had a "Tucker's Take" where he referenced tweets from "numerous AFL" insiders that claimed the timing was due to Diggs threatening to opt out.  He seems to believe it.  Diggs using the COVID-19 opt out option as leverage and the Bills caving or the Bills honoring an agreement made ~5 months ago and could only make it official the day before the opt out deadline?  That's a huge difference in the narrative.

Sort of similar to the Antonio Brown story, I'd think the Bills would want to push back against the Ross Tucker story if it;'s a widely held view.  It would not play well in the locker room.  It's much better to say that the Bills kept their agreement than that they caved to a negotiation ploy.   They are headed toward some really important negotiations in the next few years.
