The last few days of good weather has me in a summer mood.  If you were going to make a CD of beach tunes, what would you include?

I'm looking for songs in the vein of:

-Sloop John B - The Beach Boys

- Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters

- Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet

Ahhh, beach tunes. If I were making that CD it would be:

* Jimmy Buffett- Boat drinks, Manana, One particular harbor, Barometer soup, coconut telegraph.(though any Buffett will certainly do)

* Bob Marley- Legend CD (with bonus tracks)

* BuJu Banton- BuJu and friends

* Bunny Wailer - retrospective

* Lucky Dube-Captured Live

* Sweet Soca Rhythms -various artists.

Mix and match any of the tunes from these discs. Of course, whwn you say "beach" I'm thinkin' Virgin Islands but any old beach wil probably work. :D

I have, in fact, made a beach CD... It included many of the songs mentioned above... A few others:

Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison or Jimmy Buffett

Jump in the Line - Harry Belafonte (although he has many other songs that would do)

Under the Boardwalk - someone mentioned the original (The Drifters), but John Mellancamp also does a killer version...

Sittin On The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding

Smooth - Santana with Rob Thomas

Enjoy !

It's cool to hear "Spill the Wine" on the beach. It's not your typical beach song, but it works for me.

Spill the Wine - War/eric Burdon

Is that the one with the lyrics

'Spill wine, dig that girl '

Beach Boys - Holland CD

California Saga

On my way to sunny california

On my way to spend another sunny day

Water, water get yourself in the cool, clear, water

The sun shines brightly down on penny's place

The sun shines brightly down on the bay

The air's so clean it'll just take your mind away

Take your mind away

Take your mind away

Have you ever been south of monterey

Barrancas carve the coast line and the chaparral flows to the sea

'neath waves of golden sunshine

And have you ever been north of morro bay

The south coast plows the sea

And the people there are of the breed

They don't need electricity

Water, water, cool cascades of clear, clear water

The sun dance final scene sets the hills ablaze.

Horizon edges quick up the mountain's way.

Have you ever been down salinas way?

Where steinbeck found the valley

And he wrote about it the way it was in his travelin's with charley

And have you ever walked down through the sycamores

Where the farmhouse used to be

There the monarch's autumn journey ends

On a windswept cyprus tree

Water get water get yourself in that

Get yourself in that get yourself in that cool, clear, water

The sun shines brightly down on penny's place

Get yourself in that water

The air's so clean that it just takes your mind away

Take your mind away

Take your mind away

Have you ever been to a festival, the big sur congregation?

Where country joe will do his show

And he'd sing about liberty

And the people there in the open air, one big family.

Yeah the people there love to sing and share

Their new found liberty

What is SUW? I've figured that its an off-topic of some kind, but what does it stand for?

Silly

Unfocused

Wednesday

It's a long-standing tradition and has trned out to be a pretty good way to get through the mid-week doldrums.

Lakeside Park........Rush.

Everyone would gather

On the twenty-fourth of May

Sitting in the sand

To watch the fireworks display.

Dancing fires on the beach,

Singing songs together...

Though it's just a memory,

Some memories last forever.

From Frank Zappa's "Studio Tan" LP, Side 2

Sung in a cheesey falsetto, sort of Frankie Valley kind of way

"Let Me Take You To The Beach"

Lemme take you to the beach,

La La La La La La La La La La La La

Lemme take you to the beach,

La La La La La La La La La La La La

You bring the weenies,

I'll bring the soft drinks, and the cookies.

Everybody's in love.

Let me take you to a show,

Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo,

Let me take you to a show,

Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo, Wo,

Eat a candy, you are dandy,

Can I kiss you,

Maybe I'll just hold your hand-y.

Lemme take you to the beach again,

La La La La La La La La La La La La

Lemme take you to the beach again,

La La La La La La La La La La La La

We'll have a freak out!

Later we'll peak out

You're on restriction,

so you'll probably sneak out
