I liked both in the draft. Had both on my board thought they were both great value when taken. Joseph really struggled in pre-season games last year. I don't think he was making the roster and the injury was convenient to allow them to red shirt him on IR. I think he will need a really strong camp to make it and I am not even sure he isn't behind Tyrel Dodson who was the UDFA last year (who I still can't believe wasn't drafted) and then the Bills hung onto even despite the domestic abuse incident - which tells me they are really keen on him. Jaquan I think they drafted very much as a special teamer and developmental player. I expect them to try and groom him as Poyer's eventual successor but for this season (ie. 2020) when Hyde and Poyer are healthy they will be on the field. Jaquan had a really nice game week 17 though when he got in against the Jets. He was one of the backups that definitely furthered his case in that game.

Couldn’t disagree more. Maybe the television picture blurs over the big pond, cuz you’ve missed the boat here. Vosean was absolutely playing his way onto the team, but in a position where there was little to no room for an addition. Raw? Youbetcha. But that’s because of the way he was utilized @ Florida. His task there was to roam free, dissect the play and attack. What I suspect you saw was just this -out of position. But he’s an animal on the field -a true hitting machine and was the reason he was drafted. I suspect the coaching staff didn’t expect him to be available after waivers because every team wants a guy like this on their squad. Ergo, a phantom injury nobody saw in the final preseason game landed him on season-ending IR. He practiced every day and learned what is expected of him in every situation. Just in time for LoAl to retire.

I thought he might succeed Poyer and that was why the team was dragging their feet on resigning him.  But with Poyer’s new deal, I think it’s going to be hard for Johnson to get any playing time barring injury

And I heard the Pitt Draftee can play safety. So if that is true, they could be battling for a practice squad spot.

He had lost his spot on the 2nd string linebacking crew before his injury. I don't agree there was little to no room for addition. The backup linebacker jobs were very much there to be won last offseason. Maurice Alexander, Corey Thompson and Julian Stanford made the squad. I agree the Bills didn't think Joseph would clear waivers and wanted to hold onto him and work with him and that is why he was IR'd but he did not play well last pre-season. I liked him a lot at Florida too. But he has to get a lot better to make the roster. I'm not saying he won't make it, I think the Bills want him to make it... but this regime isn't going to hand out roster spots for goodwill reasons. He likely have to beat out Thomspon and the aforementioned Dodson for a spot.

You have your opinion, I have mine. Yours is wrong, however..?

The fact he was on the third line does rather suggest McDermott agreed with my wrong opinion though....

Darryl Johnson is the one that has my eye, I feel he could be a Manny Lawson type player, that’s a helluva value.

Darryl dominated 2's and 3's in preseason. Watched Pat Williams do that for a couple years, he did ok.

Sometimes he got consumed by 1s once he was elevated and got real reps. However he's a rookie, still working on his body and on techniques. He caught me eye a few times on special teams making plays; that never hurts.

I think Johnson's ceiling at safety is backup because of his size/speed.  Yeah, he may be able to start, but long term you're always going to be wanting a little more than he an give you.  Joseph has a higher ceiling but has too show he can do the job mentally.  I think Dodson has some upside, but I don't know how much playing time he'll be able to eek out.  Tremaine Johnson has MLB nailed down and Milano is a lock at one outside spot.  The third linebacker, whoever it ends up being is going to be a part time player given Sean McDermott's fondness for a nickel lineup.  The only thing that could change that would be a linebacker who is so athletic and good in coverage that he could play like a safety when called on to fill that role.

If Dodson and Joseph can really step up it might influence the decision on Milano long term.

It’s a very good problem to have, looking at these four young non-starters (Johnson, Joseph, Williams, Dodson) with loads of potential.  Whoever doesn’t crack the roster is almost a certain lock for the PS — and this year a team can protect up to four guys each week from being poached.

True.  With the Bills on the upswing, underpaid players are going to want big raises in their next contracts, if not renegotiated current deals.  At some point that's liable to create cap issues, so it would be nice if Buffalo had some value alternatives.

Living in the area where Darryl Johnson played (NC A&T) I got to watch him play a couple times. Those teams were back to back National Champs for their level and He used to crush it for them. I would love to see him pan out. McBeane have done a great job with this roster.
