The guy has 2 years left on his deal...has been in the league for 5 years and has had 1 good year at a position that doesn't get paid (because you can replace even the very best at it with a rookie and get good production). I'm not sure what his expectations are...

You cannot replace McCaffrey...

Sweet!!! Another “team player” who wants to leave his team. I bet the suitors are lining up. (See Clowney).

The "team players" who want to leave their team when not offered enough money ... that's every NFL player. I suppose there are a few exceptions, particularly guys going on to third contracts who've already made a ton and a half. Everyone else, though, they all want money, which is only reasonable.

he’s the 24th highest paid rb in the league

maybe not great but not league minimum or anything either

I don't blame him, myself. You're right that he's doing better than he could be. But the guy is 28 years old. By the time this contract runs out, his next contract will start at age 30, and he is unlikely to get much in a contract at that age.

If he was younger you could say, "hey, just wait, the money will come," but in his case if he doesn't make it now, he may well never make big money.

Running back means nothing in a shanahan system. Guy better be careful playing hardball. Kyle will pluck a UDFA and rush him for 800 yards.

I'm sure they're keeping this option open, as a stick in the negotiations.

But if you pick a UDFA you might well run him for 800 yards, if you give him enough carries. But you're not gonna get 5.6 YPC out of him the way you did with Mostert. Tevin Coleman managed 4.1 YPC last year behind the same OL.

No shame in it but think he will be hard pressed to see a major jump from the 2 year 6m he has left. Maybe gets it’s up to 8-9m?

was just saying the gap between his existing pay and deserved pay is probably much smaller than “special teams contract” vs “starting running back” would imply for most fans. He’s already paid like a slightly below average rate starter.

Given he’s more than a ST player, I can understand his argument.  I normally tire of players always demanding more $, but he is in a tough spot.  He won’t be worth much at 30 so a couple $ more should be worth it to them.  With their top 51, they have just under $12 mil. In space.  A little lean in a year like this one.  It is hard for me to feel bad for some of these players wanting bigger contracts like another on their team in Kittle, when I know so many people who are professionals and have been laid off for months.

I think they should and I kind of don't understand San Fran's take on this to be honest, especially considering they traded Breida as well. Are they really going to try and trust McKinnon again? The guy hasn't played since 2017, which is kind of ridiculous.

I think it’s why mostert is playing hardball. San Fran doesn’t have much else after the Breida trade.

Had a 5.6 ypc average and 10 total TDs.

More importantly, when like no one else was available at the position - he put up 220 and 4TDs against GB.

I personally wouldn't extend him until after the season. He wants to sit that's on him, but at the same time- he could be a late Bloomer a la Fred Jackson.  You don't want to miss out on a guy that can help u win.

Speaking of Fred, I watched the EJ Manuel drive last night and he basically checked down that entire drive and Fred and Stevie willed it down the field.  Got a nice timely PI call as well.

In all fairness they should pay him at least what an average RB makes , we know RB’s shelf life is not very long and he’s been in the league for more then 5 years , he’s got maybe few good years left if he doesn’t make his money now he sure as hell won’t when he’s 30

the number 16 contract is tevin Coleman, averaging 4.2m

his remaining deal averages about 3m

id guess they’d give him a few incentives to make up the gap but would also guess he’s not demanding a trade unless he wants more.

But this dude gets paid nothing. He does deserve to get paid more for the year he had.

Based upon football skills, or are you using 'alternate criteria' for your assessment?  ?

Based upon your previous postings, I figured it would have something to do with tight football pants.  ?

The guy has been on 6 teams in 6 years and only just this pst year started getting some carries. He also just last year signed a 3-year deal.

maybe San Fran can throw a little more money at him, but I suspect he’s not as valuable as he thinks.

yeah, this guy's a bum who hit it for part of one season now he wants to cash in.  He is the definition of dime a dozen NFL RB.

SF should give him no extra money.  He has zero leverage.

I wouldn't call him a bum or a dime a dozen RB. He had some injury issues earlier in his career.  He has elite speed, one of the fastest backs in the league.  Rare speed. He's not a great between the tackles guy.  SF more than other teams figured out how to utilize his strengths (speed in space) and he stayed healthy in 2019.  He's getting paid almost $3 mil a year which might not be what he thinks he's worth after 2019, but he probably didn't have a lot of suitors when he signed with SF.  With 2 years left he'll have a stronger case if he has another good year and SF wants to extend him.

The guy is old for a RB with no major contracts to speak of.  He outperformed his current contract by a lot.. I can't really blame him for trying to strike while the iron is hot, may be his only opportunity.

OK, maybe I don't take back my earlier "This" comment as it is not like he is getting the league minimum.  However, still, you have to do right by a guy.  Give him a reasonable bump, even if just one time.
