He is so overrated.  He’s worth $10-12 mil. at most.  How do you rate this guy so high who can’t even have a big year, even one with JJ on the other side.

Pass.

Clowney is mostly overrated by....................Clowney. Everyone else seems to be aware of what he’s actually worth, hence the lack of teams lining up to throw money at him.

SURPRISE!!!

Wow I had no idea there were teams bidding for him .

please correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t there a team ( I can’t remember which ) offered him a one year $17 million and he rejected ?
I really don’t believe he will get anything north of $20 million

Yeah it was Miami they offered him 17 million and then offered him what he wanted in 20 million and he said no to both. And the contract I believe Miami was offering was a 4-5 year deal, Now Clowney is looking at a 1 year prove it with no guaranteed money or bonus

New Clowney  thread!!

It was time......

Now that that has been taken care of, hopefully we can get a backup QB thread going.

Do they have any cap space? Isn’t Brady still eating up about $13 mil?

I think Belichick leans more toward paying the CB than the DE. Just guessing.

If they need pash rush....Clowney is a fair option, at best. Maybe if schemed and used more for that?

They dont have space - they had to work to get cam under.

That’s what I thought, and he got next to nothing.

I think I read above the Dolphins made him a big offer earlier ($17-20 mil?). I wish he had taken it. He probably does too.  :)

True, most players tend to overestimate their own value. Clearly he has done this. Should have taken the 17

He was the most double teamed edge rusher in the league last year.  That has tremendous value even if he never makes a tackle or records a sack.

So you'd pay his price for - that?

The browns reportedly offered him 18. He wants a contender

On a 1 year deal Clowney would be hard pressed to find another team that is as good as a fit as the Bills are for him. Top 5 secondary and enough talent up front so he is not double teamed.

He’ll end up back in Seattle.

Yeah - they brought back irvin for a year, but i think having clowney would improve that rotation. Lets you bring along a collier a bit slower, especially after he basically showed nothing a year ago.

Clowney is overrated because of the Michigan hit?

that take reminds me of “DK Metcalf is overrated because of his combine and physique”

both are so very wrong.

These are not the same

He’s a good player, not a great player. Probably worth $10M-$12M a year. He’s never had double digit sacks in a year and never produced the way he should have as a #1 overall pick and his ego is bruised and his mind is blinded to the fact that he’s not worth as much as he thinks but because he was drafted so high his ego is telling him that he is worth more money. Clowney never became the player he was drafted to be and there is a huge gigantic disconnect between how good he thinks he is versus how good NFL teams think he is.

Most overrated player in the NFL and has been since he entered the league.

Let somebody else over pay him

It's just the working of the market. It doesn't feel like it, but it's still early and if a team with a realistic shot at doing postseason damage sees an injury to a pass rusher, he may get what he's now asking for. Or he may have to drop a few mill and take a one-year deal.

Either way he'll be just fine

I think he would of been signed if it wasn’t for this virus shutting things down.
He missed his window and most teams spent the bulk of their play money. Nobody is signing him without a thorough medical walkthrough given his injury history. He wasn’t getting 20 million but he could of gotten a multi year deal, now he’s looking at more of a 1 year prove it deal.

Yeah, the medical thing is a big deal.

I mean he will get signed.  But you’re right, his price tag was absolutely insane.  He wanted a Mario Williams type deal and Mario was way better.  Clowney is a better Shaq Lawson and he had the luxury of playing across from one of the best pass rushers (and WM is really good too). He’s not a game changer.  One of the most overrated players in a long time.  Truly great DEs aren’t looking for their 3rd team in 3 years.

i know it’s college but I can’t believe the number 1 overall pick couldn’t get more than 3 sacks his last year in college.
