Article in Boston Globe on Pats drafting

Keep in mind Ron Borges seems to have an axe to grind with Belichick. It's weird that he blasts him for only drafting "yes-men." But how do you argue with 3 Super Bowl wins? Read for yourself.

BEST AVAILABLE PLAYER

by Ron Borges

Bill Belichick announced today that he and his draft team would be selecting the best available player in each round of the 2005 NFL draft. "Best Available Player" It's the kind of cliché oft used by introverted hermits coaching in today's NFL.

So what does the term best available player really mean? Perhaps "talent" is the meaning. However, if so, was Brock Williams the most talented player available in round three of the 2001 NFL draft? Clearly Belichick has his own idea of what the criteria should be for drafting NFL players.

One Patriots insider stated frankly, "Bill only drafts yes-men. That's his secret. I've seen him pass up on far more talented players that could have exploded on this team and propelled us to even greater success, but if they aren't going to cow tow to him, he doesn't want them. "

Just scroll through the names of some of the Patriots draft choices... Ty Warren, Eugine Wilson, Dan Klecko, Daniel Graham, Richard Seymour, Matt Light... ALL Yes-Men!

Being a certified genius, it's hard to argue with his overall success. However, one has to wonder how players drafted by the Patriots would fare on other teams or whether more talented players snubbed by Mr. Genius would have excelled if they had been drafted by the Patriots.

This season may give an indication of what could have been. The signing of former first round pick David Terrell may be an indication that Belichick has realized his short sightedness. Terrell, who struggled to validate his enormous talent on a hapless Chicago Bears team, may be poised to become the Patriots leading wide receiver.

An informal poll of NFL general managers and executives indicates that they believe David Terrell is a victim of the draft.

One anonymous executive in the know said, "It is quite sad really that someone as talented as David would be overlooked and end up on a lousy team. He had no chance of succeeding in that kind of environment. This kind of situation is especially sad because talented players are having their careers destroyed because some greedy egomaniac can't handle a player with that much talent and self confidence.... it's too threatening for them I guess."

Should David Terrell succeed with the Champions, he will vindicate not only himself and the people who always believed in him, but also all those players who have been black-balled despite their overwhelming talent simply because they have too much pride to subjugate themselves before the antichrist of the National Football League!

As usual, Mr. Sweatshirt had no comment on this important issue. How convenient.

We're rooting for you David. We're rooting for you!

Geez, I've always liked Borges whenever he's been a guest on WGR or Empire, but I'm amazed he'd write such a negative column on a team that's won as much as the Pats have over the past four years.

Sounds like Beantown's starting to loose some perspective...

What a moronic article. This Borges guy certainly has a bug up his arse re: the sweatshirt guy.

"some greedy egomaniac"? You mean Belichik?

"can't handle a player with that much talent"?

You mean his team doesn't lose enough to pick high in the 1st round?

I don't care much for "the sweatshirt guy" either, but this article is completely stupid IMO.

Borges was probably Drew's biggest fan, maybe he's still bitter.

Bingo.

Wrong Borges (as he's known to Pats fans) turned on Belichick the second Bledsoe was benched, and he's bitter as hell that while he predicted a Pats collapse, the only thing that's collapsed is Bledsoe's career.

He's the one who made the imfamous 73-0 pick for the Rams in the Super Bowl 36. He's an idiot.

(EDIT: Apparently, this article was written as a joke by KFFL forum member Lloyd_Christmas. Pretty spot-on parody, though. )
