An example is meat packing plants which had workers in confined areas and having it not known at time that workers could be asymptomatic and pass virus on to others. Workers often got little benefits and worked extra shifts making them more vulnerable to virus and more likely to not take off due to loss of income. There are many, many cases like this including churches which people do not like to think as part of economy but are. It is hard to compare US with other countries since laws are so decentralized it the US acts like a lot of small countries tightly bound with very few borders (a confederation).
