Chandler#81 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 @Gugny, @Hapless Bills Fan & 1 were ‘Shout’ing about this, so here’s a thread to post famous musicians playing instruments OTHER than what they’re known for. Who ya got? David Gilmour 1
Gugny Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I brought my son to this concert and it was purely magical. Here's Macca playing George on the uke. 1 1
Gray Beard Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 John Entwistle of The Who played the bass guitar, but also played some brass instruments. The Overture from Tommy is my favorite. He makes the French Horn cool. 2
LeviF Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Freddie Mercury - "ten years ago I knew about three chords on the guitar. And now in 1982 I know three chords on the guitar." 1 1
WhoTom Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) Now known mainly as a singer, way back in the early 60s, Roger played lead guitar in the band that eventually became The Who. Edited June 11, 2020 by WhoTom 2
ChevyVanMiller Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) Here’s a wonderful version of Atlantic City with Levon Helm on mandolin and Garth Hudson on accordian. And don’t forget that the Mandrell Sisters could do this every night and make it look easy. Edited June 11, 2020 by ChevyVanMiller 1
WhoTom Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Here are three musicians playing instruments that they're not famous for. Coincidentally, I saw them do this at a different show on the same tour.
Rico Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I don't know if there are any Youtube vids, but Stevie Winwood is just tremendous playing guitar on Traffic's live "On The Road"

He’s clearly known more for his electric work -both with Pink Floyd and solo. He’s also quite adept at steel guitar which is an instrument Country Music is famous for. But that’s all those corn fed folks can play.

How could you you not have seen this one... only known recorded concert to date of the mostly original Traffic (no Dave Mason). He rips it up pretty good on this film, 1974... my avatar lol. Stoned out pretty good too, acid is fun. 1 1

Rico Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I think I've told this before in here. I was at this Dylan Merriillville, IN (Gary suburb, north of Purdue) show at the Holiday Star Theatre in 1981. Right before the last song of the night, he says "I've got a friend I want to bring out." We had no idea who it was. Maybe Robbie Robertson? Instead this guy comes out in a wheelchair. They adjust the mic for him and he sings a song I didn't recognize, all the while Dylan's all over the place playing sax. One of the wildest things I've ever seen at a concert. 1
