To answer you in the simplest terms, I'm voting for Biden because he is the more left-leaning candidate. Every presidential election I've voted in since 2008 (I became eligible in 2007) has been on that premise. I'm a lefty. Thanks for the complete honesty. I lean right. Guns God and Country for me. Have been moving slightly libertarian lately but jist cant grasp it 100% 1
dpberr Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 Community policing or COPS was all the rage in LA post 1992. It's not that it hasn't been tried across the US and it's had success in places. It's just an awful lot of political will, work and money, and it takes years. If the people driving it leave, or are replaced by more Parker/Gates theorists, it can disappear as quickly as it arrives. Do the police need reform? Yes, nationwide. For at least 50 years now. Would I disbanded local law enforcement in a pandemic/civil unrest/election year? No. I'm not that rash. You're putting all your residents in a lot of unnecessary danger, and I wouldn't want to give these governors or this President an excuse to send in the troops. 3 1

Minnesota isn't eliminating the rule of law. The idea is that the emergency services supplied by the police can & will be replaced with more effective methods. You are right that community policing is a lot of work and a lot of effort, but as you also note, it is very overdue. 6 minutes ago, bilzfancy said: That's pretty much where I'm at, live and let live, smaller government and states rights. Based on those principles, you should be enthusiastically in favor of what Minnesota is doing. Right?

Or if you're looking for some of the ideas already out there, I have a great resource for you.

Well, I'm not in charge of anything in Minnesota. I have ideas and speculation, but no, I can't give you "answers." This is what's funny about y'all, you were so sure that history was "over" and all of the great thinkers already came and went, you've spent so long jerking off to same couple of white guys and the only political theory you've ever read, you couldn't possibly conceive of a reality where there are no "answers." Only "problems" and "complications" and "ideas" and "solutions." Childish worldview. 4 minutes ago, fansince88 said: We are dealing with a ticking time bomb here. Tick, tick!

Doc Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 Do it Minneapolis and be the guinea pig for the rest of the country/world. We'll see that it still won't help improve the situation for black people, but at least it will be one fewer talking point. 1
