And can we assume the other proposed changes, regarding draft compensation for hiring minorities, have been shot down?

Let's hope so.

That rule has been tabled for further discussion.

I had figured it was a decoy extreme to get these others easily passed.

All these seem reasonable. Having minority coaches and executives get interviews gives them exposure and gives the owners better familiarity with minority applicants. It isn't forcing anyone to hire anyone so I don't see the harm. As far as the assistant coach to coordinator blocking that seems more common sense. Coordinator is the highest position on a team besides coach so if an assistant coach wants a higher title they should be able to interview for it externally.

Heard an interesting take from Stephen A the other day on this subject.  His big issue is people with no NFL experience getting HC jobs over people with many years NFL experience at lower levels.  (He singled out Kingsbury as an example on what's wrong  with the system in his eyes)

He suggested putting in a rule that requires all HC must first be a coordinator, his reasoning is many minorities get those jobs but never move any higher.  By requiring coordinator experience first would improve the chance for them.  He'd do a similar thing with front office positions too.  His argument is you can't go to college without first graduating HS.  For that matter for all practical purposes you can't play in the NFL without first playing college or being out of HS for three years.

Never was even remotely going to happen. Some folks just needed a new crusade for a couple days.

Think these are sensible but needed steps. Give them 3 years and review again.

Not sure the inability to block coordinator interviews is good news for the Bills. If Josh has a good season Dorsey is gone to be an OC. If Eric Washington gets development out of Harry and Ed and AJ he is gone to be a DC.

Mandate job requirements for private organizations?

Only if they've had their Corona vaccines first!

Uhhh... The league of private organizations would be implementing the requirement themselves.

But good to know you're an anti-vaxxer too.

Not sure I buy that. Mike Tomlin had been a DC for one season when he got the Steelers job. Lynn interim OC for less than a season when he got the Chargers job.

Stephen A might wish to reconsider.

The NFL is mandating this themselves. They are free to institute hiring practices as they see fit, as long as they aren't illegal (which this could technically be since they are clearly discriminating based on race)

Nothing about these rule changes discriminate by race. Requiring them to interview an external minority candidate does not mean that someone else misses out on an interview. And you would have to prove that it does in order to prove unlawful discrimination.

 Requiring an expanded interview pool is not discriminating against anyone.

Well, good they trashed that one.

And what if I'm 12.5% Black... Does it count? Depends on my skin color? It's treading dangerous ground.

No one is asking the government to mandate anything. The proposed experience requirement (which is just a suggestion from a pundit) would be the NFL (Last time I checked a private organization) having job requirements for their franchises to follow. There are many private organizations that have internal requirements for moving up, this would be no different. Stop being such a triggered snowflake.

It's not discriminating based on race to have a requirement that you have an expanded interview pool. They aren't mandating any team hire anyone based on their race.
