oldmanfan Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 One of the good ones. Sorry to hear of his passing. 1 1
BigdaddyinOrlando Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Got to see him play in person a couple times! Was a great player! RIP Mr Williams!! 1
Niagara Bill Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Way way way to young. RIP Ben I hope his family knows the respect we feel. 1
Beast Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Ben Williams was a good football player. Solid across the board. That 1980 team is still my favorite Bills team of all time. 8

Happy Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 I vaguely remember him as I was as very young at the time, though recall he was a solid DE. RIP Gentle Ben.
KD in CA Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Sad news. Always really liked him, and so many of the other guys from that era. p.s. just curious, but does anyone know how many sacks (approx) he had in his career? Sacks weren't officially tracked for most of his career. Edited May 18, 2020 by KD in CA 1

freddyjj Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 This hits close to home. Was in college during the "Ground Chuck" Knox years and those were some good teams, especially on defense. the Bermuda Triangle with Sherman White, Gentle Ben and Ken "Baby" Johnson rotating at DE. "I gotta feelin', Buffalo's going to da Super Bowl! RIP Gentle Ben. 1
njbuff Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 RIP. Too bad he only got to play with Bruce Smith one season in 1985.
Bob in STL Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) He was better than solid. He was an excellent player. A third round pick. He started just about every game that he dressed for in his 10 year career. He made a Pro Bowl in 1982. Was even better in '83 when he had 10 sacks in 14 games. To illustrate how messed up things were, he was drafted in 1976 and was the first African American football player at Ole Miss. Edited May 18, 2020 by Bob in STL 7 1
Haslett_Stomp Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 One of my favorite players as a young Bills fan. RIP Ben.
