I'd say he's closer to average. What was making him bad last year was those shanked punts and he cut those out towards the end of the season I believe.

Nothing he said discounts another punter. Indeed he kept going on about competition the whole call. 

 

He talked about Vedvik's versatility and made no specific comment on his punting ability. 

 

He never made any suggestion about not getting more competition in. He never said it was Borjequez vs Vedvik.

The shanked punts are one issue. When he's having a bad day, his punts also have only two options. 

 

Option A is a very long punt, but he out-kicks his coverage and there's usually a decent return.

 

Option B is hangtime with a huge sacrifice to distance. 

 

The ideal punter would be able to do something in between. Like 50 yards with good hangtime is better than 65 with none or 42 with too much....and I'm not sure he's got that in the tool bag

Heres the reason why I want a punter for the couple of guys asking why. 

 

I think we can all agree we are still very much a defensive team. I think our offense has gotten better but I don’t think it is going to be Chiefs or Saints level. We can get away beating average and below average teams with bad punting but against the upper echelon teams we need a guy who can flip the field and make these super potent offenses drive the entire length of the field against our good defense. The way the game is set up now offenses have every advantage and one shanked punt can be the difference between losing and winning a game in January. 

 

Too often last year our great defense would have to be bail out the offense after turnovers, the special teams after a shanked punt. You just can’t have that against the Chiefs to win a game against them

Havent seen an update on that. He and the South Carolina punter still out there. Maybe we should all start tweeting at Turk to get him to come to Buffalo?
