It first I thought it was a bad read by Josh on the option. After watching a second time, I see that AJ was going to make the tackle no matter who had the ball - he was unblocked.

The man in motion might have gotten around him, but I don’t get why they don’t instinctively chip once they don’t get the ball. Poor execution all the way around. Woof.

Likely, he's unblocked by design.

 

They're read optioning the DE:

If the DE crashes on the ball carrier Allen pulls the ball and run. 

If he maintains the edge Allen hands the ball off.

Yup.  That play was doomed to fail.  The question is, did Allen have the authorization to audible out of it?
