Miyagi-Do Karate Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 You know O'Brien overpaid him solely to spite Hopkins.

MJS Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Have to give the man what he wants after you gave two first rounders for him. He had all the leverage.

BOB is coaching for his job this year and that would have killed it. This is one reason being head coach AND being GM is a bad idea. They should have different roles and objectives to do this properly. . Edited April 24, 2020 by Augie
Doc Brown Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Guy had 14 false starts in 14 games last year. Gave up two first round picks for him. Pay that man his money.
NewEra Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Good lord. This is out of control. Every position is gonna get 20 mill a year before we know it. if Dawkins even asks about 20 mill a year we should trade him 4

DabillsDaBillsDaBills Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 3 years is an extremely short term contract for a 25 year old tackle. I'm curious how this will effect the overall market as most players sign for longer term and more overall money, but a lower AAV.
Buffalo Junction Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Someone check on Brain Gaine please. He might be laying on a floor laughing himself to death.
CEN-CAL17 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I wouldn’t pay Dawkins $21M per.... sorry. No way is he a top 5 LT!!!! This league needs to come to a reality. 2
nemhoff Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 BOB had no leverage in this, but man he loves doubling down on his mistakes

Mind you, he never would have dished out 2 1sts without having a deal in place first. He might even have cut him rather than pay him that much, tbh. On a side note, not only has Tunsil done remarkably well for himself without an agent, he also gets to keep all the money without paying a shark.

Just Joshin' Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 He got out smarter by his OT. The rate is high plus he gets a new contract faster. Texans should have done 5 years.

On a side note, not only has Tunsil done remarkably well for himself without an agent, he also gets to keep all the money without paying a shark. Belichick doesn’t ever have to worry about losing his job. Not the case in Houston, or almost anywhere else. Having said that, I can’t really say I love Belichick the GM. He doesn’t draft particularly well. You can’t argue with his success, but I think more of that comes from being a brilliant coach (and of course a cheater), than being a good GM. I think there can be an inherent conflict if you play both roles. The coach in you can reach for players trying to keep their job, while the GM should have longer term roster building and cap management as primary objectives. It’s hard to wear both hats, IMO. P.S. - I didn’t realize Tunsil didn’t have an agent. I guess he’s not too baked, or at least less baked than the Texans BOB. And you’re right, Belichick NEVER would have painted himself into that corner. This was just dumb all the way around, as I see it. Edited April 24, 2020 by Augie
atlbillsfan1975 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Bill O’Brien is a complete doofus. This is when the league should step in and say ‘nope, that’s just dumb’.
Giuseppe Tognarelli Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Suddenly drafting an OT today seems possible. 1
