Part of the NFL Memo on the Virtual Draft.

"Accordingly, all clubs should dedicate their personnel and technology resources toward preparing for a fully virtual Draft, and preventing the Pats from hacking their equipment, with personnel in separate locations. Our staff in Events, Football Operations, Information Technology and the Management Council will be in contact with each Club and remains fully available to answer questions or assist in your preparations. Our understanding is that many clubs are already well advanced in preparing for a virtual Draft, and the Pats likely have already accessed a back-door in these clubs IT, and we are confident that all clubs can take the necessary steps to make the 2020 Draft a successful event.

I hope the NFL is aware that none of the clubs have GMs with Russian accents....

Beane should set a cool background when making his pick, like the flying toasters or 3D pipes

Remember the show Laugh in? Use their psychedelic background thing and have Beane dress like a hippie ?

Probably not because each state has different restrictions right now and the league wants to make it fair across the board. For example in Ohio no one is allowed to leave home except for essential business like groceries, or to walk around in open air apart from others, and no one should be letting anyone in their homes unless they live there. Even relatives. So it would make that type of gathering, even small, impossible until at least may 1

I mean, poop, I have a friend who was asked to fly into Texas for work for some emergency work, he is a transporter (logistics/shipping). His employer called it an emergency and booked the flight so he thought it was OK. As soon as he got off the plane he was greeted by a federal marshal who told him he now was not allowed to leave the state for 14 days. He could have gotten out, but the load he was carrying did not have any DOT numbers (which he did not realize before he took the load), so he could not get an exception for essential personnel.

Anyone else getting this feeling thats the draft is going to be a disaster ?

No, this is technology and functionality that has been around for a decade. Draft boards are pretty much already set. This isnt rocket surgery.

I remember watching the videos the Bills released after last year's Draft showing their Draft room.  It's going to be quite a challenge to be able to manage all that information efficiently.  Taking calls to trade up or down, making calls to trade up or down.  It seems like they are always talking to several teams at the same time about possible moves.  Keeping track of every team's draft picks and their likely positions of need remaining after each selection.  Lots of moving parts.  The League might want to give an extra minute or two for each selection.

Here's a link to that video...

we’ve had 4 simultaneous VTC over teams, zoom FaceTime etc over our run of the mill internet. (adults working and kids schooling) I’m sure it’ll be fine.

using VOIP, too?

That's been a miserable experience.

So you know how the NFL still uses the card system for draft picks, even in recent years despite all the new technology?  For those that don't know, clubs have to physically hand in their draft selection to the NFL even though all the GMs operate remotely from their respective clubhouses.  Each team has a representative at the draft whose job is to do just that.

The release doesn't explicitly mention this, but is it safe to assume that there will not be any physical club presence for the card thing, even if it's only just 1 per team with no other representatives present?

Maybe TBD can open up the forums to all GM’s around the league and they can have the draft in a thread. You know, when their team is up to draft, their screen name will appear in the thread title, for example, Username, WeNowSuckWithoutBrady and the Patriots are on the clock.
