forgot about aldon smith but man his first few years he looked like he was hall of fame bound and then off a cliff with the off the field stuff.

That guy was putting up historic numbers at the start of his career.  He didn’t start a game as a rookie, and he had 14 sacks.  He had 19.5 sacks his second season.  He might be the best pass rusher in history.  That’s not hyperbole.  He just couldn’t get out of his own way.

 It would be like if Pat Mahomes retired during this offseason.  Smith didn’t have the body of work, but nobody ever did it better entering the league.  Aldon was on an entirely different level than any pass rusher in the NFL three years before he even got to his prime. He had 33.5 sacks before the age of 24. Reggie White had 0 career sacks before the age of 24.  Bruce’s two highest sack seasons combined were 34.
