Hapless Bills Fan Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 PSA: know someone or some org with a 3D printer? Print face shields for first responders or suggest this as something perhaps they could do, and consider a donation for supplies? https://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/news/2020/03/25/maker-community-enlists-3d-printing-to-ease-shield.html If first responders and HCW are well supplied, these would also be helpful for workers in elder care facilities (aides who bring meals etc), pharmacies, grocery stores to prevent infection and minimize spreading asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections Many schools and libraries have these now-a-days and are now closed, potentially meaning the person in charge of them may have extra time. If you know of such, reach out to the principal or director (not the grunt) and suggest they fund this effort and seek community donation of supplies if necessary. 1
/dev/null Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 i don't own one but I'll pass this along to a few folks that do
Saxum Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 All kind of models or just certain ones? There seems to be a large variety and I have always been afraid if I bought one it would be another toy I not use.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 This is really popular in Pittsburgh right now. https://www.post-gazette.com/news/corona2020/2020/03/28/3D-print-face-shields-N95-shortage-UPMC-DIY-homemade-mask-filter-hospital/stories/202003260127 I actually think these small groups of hobbyists and small businesses are going to be huge on a number of fronts (masks, face guards, ventilator technology, etc.). Much more nimble than your GM’s of the world. May be really helpful to stock short-term needs.
LewPort71 Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 A beekeeper in my neck of the woods is making face shields with a 3D printer.
teef Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Interesting. My lab guy just bought a bad ass 3D printer, and actually made to comment to let him know if anything like this is needed. I’ll pass this along.
stuvian Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 most dental labs use 3D printing for dentures and such
Just Jack Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 One of my high school classmates is already doing this for the DOH. 1 hour ago, stuvian said: most dental labs use 3D printing for dentures and such My sister in law just last week had a crown made while she waited in the dentist office. They printed it out right there in about 10 minutes. 1
