It is under siege!” – a reference to Virginia’s governor, Ralph Northam, last week signing into law new measures on gun control. His latest provocative interventions followed demonstrations against stay-at-home orders in Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and other states that have drawn elements of the far right. Some protesters have carried guns, waved Trump and Confederate flags and sought to frame the debate as a defence of constitutional freedoms. They have been egged on by conservative media hosts such as Fox News’s Jeanine Pirro, who said: “What happened in Lansing [Michigan] today, God bless them: it’s going to happen all over the country.” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/17/trump-liberate-tweets-coronavirus-stay-at-home-orders As of 2020 there are 26 Republican governors. Hey go for it , lead the way back to normal Whenever a person in authority tries to advance their personal or political party views by disguising it as something else it is soon seen through by the average Joe. Democrats have long used any crisis to attempt to push their agenda. Obama used the government shutdown to make (in his own words) the shutdown be as painful as could be since he guessed it would be blamed on the GOP. Governors are basically making decrees that forbid one thing while allowing things that don't make sense. In PA, state parks including the primitive camping areas are shut down. Liquor stores and golf courses are verboten. Lottery and weed sales are ok. In Michigan a resident can't visit or stay in a second home, fish from a motor boat (but do so from a canoe) or buy seeds and paint. People don't like to be cooped up but will do so if they have something to do. Painting that room or planting that garden helps them through the lock down. Some governors have a lot of power but think they are Chief Nanny of their states. Overreach is soon discovered by the populace while if the governors were reasonable in the first place they wouldn't lose the faith and confidence of those they govern and protests wouldn't be happening. 3
GG Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 The protests in the low infections states are the perfect test ground for the further spread of the virus. If these states don't see an uptick in cases by Tuesday or Wednesday, then it's enough proof that it will be safe to start reopening. 2

I think your posts pretty much sums up my frustration over the past couple days. I like to think of myself as a somewhat reasonable person, but These social shaming attempts from people, the media and politicians are beginning to reach a boiling point And if I’m beginning to feel that way then I’m pretty damn sure there are many others as well. I’m sensing a profound schism that is developing between the “stay at home” vs. the “let’s get on with life” people. The longer it continues this way the more anger I think we will see. 2 3

There’ll be those who choose to stay home. My sister in law is one of them. Just like at the beach they’ll eventually get in the water once they see everyone else ‘having fun’.

Some people in authority like governors or that stupid ***** oaf DeBlasio are their own worst enemies. They shut down the liquor stores in PA and of course these people near the border come flocking over to NYS crowding those stores. Deblasio encourages people to take pictures of any violations and send them to his "proper distance police" so they can get a $1000 fine. The best thing a person can do is get the hell out of Detroit and go stay in their cottage in the Upper Peninsula but that witch in Michigan says residents can't do that but out-of-state people can. All they had to do is be reasonable but these asswholes just had to become dictators, which isn't the wisest thing to try to do in the U.S. 1

dpberr Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 These protests had a great opportunity to make a difference but showing up with the ARs, the load out vests, the camo, the Confederate flags and Alex Jones makes them caricatures. Don't understand the Trump support at the rallies either. The governors are the majority of the problem but he's the next 45 percent. Government is the problem. He's government just like the rest of them. Why don't people show up in the uniforms of the jobs they aren't working at currently? A lot more impactful in my opinion. 1
