I hear ya. But I have little doubt that you can get a guy like Gordon in the 5th or 6th round of the draft for a fraction of what the Broncos just paid for Gordon.

I also want Singletary getting the majority of the carries. So, we are really looking for a complimentary, load-share RB more than anything.

Maybe, but this is a playoff team.  Are you comfortable lining up third and goal from the four down by 4 points with a minute left and a rookie sixth round pick in the backfield?  I’d feel much better with a Gordon or Gurley who are proven TD machines.

If we're trying to stack the line and run it in from 4 yards out on 3rd down we probably deserve to lose anyways. Allen is probably more likely to run it in than either of them are too. I personally wouldn't be looking for a short yardage specialist if it were me. If we bring someone in that happens to be good at that in addition to other more valuable aspects, then sure.

but is that worth $16M/2 years?

I agree that we need to address the backup RB spot, but there is a $ ceiling on that, in my view.

this is from Barnwell today, and I agree with it:

If Gordon fixes the fumble problem, stays healthy and runs and catches passes efficiently in the way he has once across his five seasons, the Broncos will get a solid return on their deal here. Instead, in the process of signing Gordon, they're diminishing the role of Phillip Lindsay, who has been more efficient than Gordon over the past two years. The Broncos want to keep Lindsay's workload down and will likely swap Gordon into the lineup for Royce Freeman, but the back half of a running back rotation isn't something the Broncos should be giving $13.5 million guaranteed, especially with their needs elsewhere. It might be generous to suggest Gordon is a league-average back, which is something Denver didn't need to prioritize.

I will never understand the Carlos Hyde fascination this place has.  What makes so many here pine for a 30 year old journeyman RB who was just released in favor of Shady McCoy?

I don't want him either get me a UDFA or late round RB.  But seeing EVERYONE seems to love RBs around here and want one signed.  Get me a cheap one

It’s the modern NFL. We need more than one who can contribute effectively.

Good there is the Draft and UDFA.  the place to actually get value at the RB position

I don’t think they will draft for need. But if they did it is CB2 imo in the 2nd. Much easier to find a decent RB2 later in the draft or out of the remaining guys in FA

I am thinking Cam Akers in the second round, Darrynton Evans in the third round, and whomever else later on.

McFarland and CEH are too similar to Singletary, so I really don't think the Bills would draft either one of these kids.

Well there you go, we really were close to signing him.

Interesting but the cold weather thing being brought up re: Buffalo as some kind of reason why he wasn’t interested is irrelevant. It snows in September in Denver

So the Bills offered more than 2-year deal worth $16M with $13.5M guarantee for a RB. That tells me that RB is their top need and that their first pick will be a RB. Josh Allen needs a strong running game to be successful.  Hope Dobbins, Taylor, or Clyde.

If true it tells me that they valued the player highly. Doesn’t mean they believe RB to be their top need and plan to draft a RB with their 1st pick. Gordon was available, they like him, they tried to get him. Doesn’t mean they will do the same for those three players you mention. Taylor, specifically, is a different type of back than Gordon.

I'm shocked to hear we offered more than that for him. Do we not see Singletary as a lead back?

Gordon is a different type of player than Singletary. He’s more of a hybrid type and can catch the ball more reliably than Devin. I think they saw them as a good tandem.

What I do think they value, as has been evident the past few years, is they want a vet RB on the team. I expect a signing of one of the remaining FAs

Teams do split back fields.... helps to keep them fresh throughout the season.... I can’t see Singletary shouldering the load all season. Maybe they’ll explore trade market for a back if they aren’t interested in what’s left.

McDermott plainly stated At the end of the season that he does not want one RB to get all the carries. Gordon would have been a nice upgrade to Gore but we move on.

This is one of those times I'm thankful the player didnt choose us.  Melvin Gordon isn't a good RB.  I understand he was a 1st round pick and hes got some name recognition and cache, but watching him play........not good.

While I'm glad we missed out on him I'm concerned the Bill's would think investing $8.5M a yr. In an avg RB is smart business.  It is actually very dumb, and I think we dodged a bullet here

Sign me up for Lamar Miller, who I view as a better RB than Gordon for about half that price.   That's a much savvier move.

Who are the best RBs in the draft like Gordon? Who are the best receiver type RBs, besides Swift.....Moss? Dobbins? Perine? Clyde Edwards-Helaire?

I still like Jonathan Taylor though too, though I know lot’s don’t. Clyde is my favorite.

Maybe Hyde on a 1 year 6M deal with incentives.

Hyde's value is in the $3-$4M range, he'd be very lucky to ***** $6M at this point.

I see him getting maybe $3.5M on a 1 or 2 yr deal

Dobbins for sure. Definitely not Taylor (not to say he can’t be used that way, he just hasn’t been in college). Not sure about the others. I would sign Lamar Miller and draft Cam Akers and cut TJ Yeldon.

Welp
