Pats can't afford Dalton in a trade senario. He has a  $17.5m salary for 2020,  Pats have around $12m left.  Only way he goes is he takes a pay cut, doubtful, or he gets cut and gives Pats a home town discount. I think the days of NE getting vets on the cheap to win a ring are long gone!

I thought exceptional DE's get sacks. Isn't that what makes them - exceptional?

I believe it also includes stopping the run, QB pressures, batted passes, TFL’s, etc. It’s not a one stat position, in my opinion.

Winston (and his bottoming out value) to the Pats May be his best move.  But if Arians couldn’t get him to step consistently forward, I doubt the Pats can.  This is a pride-swallowing situation for him though, no doubt.  Clowney to the Jets seems like a face-saving move for both parties.  Very interesting.

Clowney to the Jets makes a lot of sense for the Jets.

I guess that I look at the Bills as better than New England right now. Jameis absolutely has a higher ceiling and lower floor than Dalton. To me the only way that they can pass the Bills is if Jameis hits that ceiling (or Cam for that matter). Dalton as Dalton isn’t good enough. I’d rather the Patriots play it safe and sign a Dalton (or Brissett shakes free). I’d rather that they sign a little safer option than a home run threat.

Agree on the "floor/ceiling" plan.

I think BB prefers the known as opposed to the potential fluctuation. Just my thought.

Either way, I'm with you. Bills appear to have surpassed NE.

Completely agree.

He's a fine player. Just not exceptional in my eyes, nor is he worth what's he's looking for.

Count me in the group that wants neither of these things to happen. I don’t want Clowney with the Jets and don’t want Jameis’ talent in New England. I’d much rather Dalton there. He’s a lot less dangerous with a way lower ceiling. I think that the Bills are better than the Pats now. If New England somehow harnessed Jameis’ talent that could flip. If they signed Dalton they can’t pass the Bills IMO.

BB has proven that he can get the most out of any quarterback that he has had.  As long as BB is coaching the Pats, they will be difficult to beat.

I'd be more afraid if the Jets actually manage to sign another decent OL.

Given it was as big a need as any team had in the league, they've signed 1 good player.

The Fant signing at the price is one of the most laughable in recent free agent history. He was mainly used as a 6th lineman for one of the worst O lines in the league.

Still think the Steelers should sign Winston and have him sit behind Big Ben and learn from him. Winston to me has always reminded me a little of Big Ben and he can take over once Ben retires

Winston doesn't strike me as a BB guy. i can see Flacco, Dalton or Newton.

I don't agree with Winston at all.  Winston in the hard knocks episodes was desperately trying to show leadership skills.  To the point it was overkill, for me.  But he does seem to want to be part of a team process with being a leader.  He's got to work on it, IMO, because I think it may turn off some guys how he's doing it.

Newton on the other hand seems like a guy that isn't all in during the week.  He stopped improving and to some that have limited inside info, they have said he isn't big on film study.  That doesn't seem like a BB guy.

I do think Dalton would also be a good choice from that perspective.

Winston's best bet is to try and latch on to Chicago. A situation where he legit could start if he wins a battle at camp. May not like a short term commitment, but Tannehill recently was able to Charlotte's web his way into a massive deal.

I could see Jameis in Jax or in SD backing up Tyrod. Foles going to Chi muddies that situation.

I think we could see Cam in Miami...

Nope... not gonna happen.  That would mean either:

Cam is Fitzpatrick‘s backup

or

Fitzpatrick is Cam’s back up

and

Miami’s rookie QB is the emergency QB.   Not happening

They aren't tied to Fitz or Rosen. If the trade Fitz before 6/1 they save all $8M that they currently owe him. Someone would flip them a late pick for a proven backup IMO

I’d disagree on Clowney: he’s an exceptional end but he doesn’t get many sacks. Looking at his other stats, however, he is a top DE in the league.

Is he worth the same as top end edge rushers? Nope, but he’s still darn good.

If we signed him we would have the best nonsack getting bookends of all time.
