longtimebillsfan Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 It has been mentioned a number of time this off season that the Bills need to upgrade our backup quarterback position. Would cam Newton be an upgrade? He and Josh have similar skill sets so the offense does not have to change style of play if Josh gets injured? Thoughts? 1
klos63 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 He will want to start and he should get an opportunity. He won't need to settle for a backup position with a small salary. 5

Warcodered Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I mean technically yeah but I don't see him coming here to be a backup or at a price we'd like. 1 1

Do you see the bills going strong to upgrade the backup QB this off season? If so, who would be a good fit?
Chandler#81 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 CANcer NEWTON? Hell no! Keep him as far away from OBD as possible 7 2
KD in CA Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) Seriously? Do people put any thought whatsoever into topics? Yes, sign me up for a moody malcontent who thinks he's still a star but is just a mediocre passer who is too old to run because.....uh.....he was the #1 pick in the draft a lifetime ago and played in a Super Bowl once upon a time. His teammates love him. and there’s no way Newton would ever be a backup to Allen anyways. 15 minutes ago, KD in CA said: Seriously? Do people put any thought whatsoever into topics? He’s still a million times better than Barkley. 1

For the rest of us unenlightened, it’s useless to engage you in conversation. Happy hunting. 1

You might not understand what this team seems to want in a back up. The role is all about helping Josh Monday through Saturday in the qb room, preparing, watching film, teaching, supporting. Preparing as if playing even though almost never will. for that role I’d say Cam may be a worse fit. 4

Thoughts? 1) Cam has no interest in being a backup at this point. If he's healthy, he's earned a shot to start. If he isn't, he shouldn't be a backup 2) The ego pressure in that QB room would be so intense that Ken Dorsey would have to be rushed to the hypobaric chamber to prevent a bad case of the "Bends" 1 hour ago, purple haze said: Jameais. Seriously - since "taking care of the football" is such a huge deal for McDermott, why does anyone think he'd want Mr Picksomatic waiting in the wings? 1

That's why they're back ups. Jameis would have more talent than most of them. Mr. Picksomatic is also Mr. TD Thrower. He can give a team a chance to win if the starter is out because of his arm talent. That's all one can ask out of a backup; most backups are a short ride to a loss. Jameis is also a guy that could potentially be moved down the line whether he plays or not because a QB with starting talent will eventually be needed somewhere in the league. Or read any of his social media postings in the last 5 years, yes? I get the basic premise of what you’re saying but no. Cam would not accept a backup job to Allen this year. He still considers himself a starter and there are a few starting options still open out there.
billsbackto81 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) To quote Cam Newton himself, " Is you dumb?" Don't want him anywhere near my QB. Edited March 18, 2020 by billsbackto81 3
MJS Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 No. All Cam does is talk trash non stop. What could he possibly bring to the table as a backup? He'd be terrible for this team. Plus, some desperate team is going to kick the tires and make him a starter this year.
