Pelosi Palooza: House $3 Trillion Relief Bill Loaded With Democrat Political Goodies

Reagan McCarthy writes at Townhall:

Speaker Pelosi Proposes Another Partisan Relief Package

Speaker Pelosi unveiled Democrats’ proposed COVID-19 relief package on Tuesday, even as she refuses to allow the House to return to D.C. This version totals to an additional $3 trillion of relief.

The 1,815-page piece of legislation is, once again, filled with ideological wishes that are unrelated to coronavirus relief. Speaker Pelosi also allowed no GOP input in the crafting of this package that is virtually dead-on-arrival. Included in Speaker Pelosi’s bill are voting reforms, a repeal of the SALT cap, diversity incentives for marijuana businesses and other unrelated wish-list items.

You wouldn’t believe some of the items in this bill:

National Endowment for the Arts- $10 million for the National Endowment for the Arts for grants to support the general operations of recipients and language to permit the waiver of matching requirements.

National Endowment for the Humanities- $10 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities for grants to support the general operations of recipients and language to permit the waiver of matching requirements.

Sec. XX3. Temporary Protections for Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers. This section provides temporary protections to undocumented workers in the United States engaged in essential critical infrastructure work, as defined by DHS-issued guidance, during the COVID-19 emergency. Such workers are deemed to be in a period of deferred action and to be authorized for employment, and employers are shielded from certain immigration-related violations for employing such workers.

Section XX5. ICE Detention. This section requires DHS to review the immigration files of all individuals in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to assess the need for continued detention. Individuals who are not subject to mandatory detention shall be prioritized for release, either on recognizance or into an alternative to detention program, unless the individual is a threat to public safety or national security.

That barely scratches the surface.

Look what else they are trying to do to America!!!!

Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) programs – $100 million, with a waiver of the local match requirement, including $30 million for grants to combat violence against women, $15 million for transitional housing assistance grants, $15 million for sexual assault victims assistance, $10 million for rural domestic violence and child abuse enforcement assistance, $10 million for legal assistance for victims, $4 million for assistance to tribal governments, and $16 million to support families in the justice system. Byrne Justice Assistance Grants – $300 million to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, including for purchasing personal protective equipment and controlling outbreaks of coronavirus at prisons, with waivers of the local match and non-supplanting requirements. Public defender funding is also an authorized use of Byrne-JAG grants. The bill additionally prevents the Department of Justice from preventing these funds from going to sanctuary jurisdictions. Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) – $300 million for law enforcement hiring grants and for the purchase of personal protective equipment, with waivers of the local match and non-supplanting requirements. Hmmm: House Dems Bailing From Pelosi’s $3T “Heroes Act”?

Later today, Nancy Pelosi will call a vote on her $3 trillion “Heroes Act,” her version of the next phase of COVID-19 relief aimed mainly at state and local governments — and larded up with practically every progressive hobby horse, too.

Mitch McConnell called the bill a “seasonal catalog of left-wing oddities” and “a totally unserious effort” yesterday.  Senate Republicans have proclaimed Pelosi’s bill dead on arrival in the upper chamber, where work on an alternative hasn’t even considered Pelosi’s proposal.

But will it actually arrive? Starting last night, multiple media outlets began reporting that opposition to Pelosi’s stunt bill had begun to grow among House Democrats — and Pelosi doesn’t have much margin for error anyway. Politico first noted it, but reported that the bill was expected to pass anyway:

Not so fast, reported CNN later last night. Moderate Democrats started speaking up about the bloat in the bill and the exploitation of the crisis, and started moving into outright opposition to it. Opposition comes especially from districts that might be most vulnerable in November — the districts Democrats won back from Trump and the GOP in the midterms:

(Bloomberg) -- As it headed toward bankruptcy, Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. took advantage of a little-noticed provision in the stimulus bill Congress passed in March to get a $9.7 million tax refund. Then, it asked a bankruptcy judge to authorize the same amount as bonuses to nine executives.

The rig operator is one of dozens of oil companies and contractors now claiming hundreds of millions of dollars in tax rebates. They are employing a provision of the $2.2 trillion stimulus law, called the CARES act, that gives them more latitude to deduct recent losses.

“This is a stealth bailout for the oil and gas industry,” said Jesse Coleman, a senior researcher with Documented, a watchdog group tracking the tax claims. It’s geared to companies “that have been losing money over the last few years -- and now they get that money back as a check from the taxpayers. That’s exactly what the oil industry has been doing.”

And yet bailing out the state and local governments is bad. Showing their true colors

“The Congress of the United States must honor its responsibility to the American people to lessen the blow of the coronavirus by making the serious investment of The Heroes Act to our state, local, tribal and territorial governments,” Pelosi said Friday in a public letter to all members of the House. “The plan that we are voting on today will make a tremendous difference not only in the budgets of the states but in the lives of the American people.”

The 1,800-page legislation contains a dizzying array of provisions: nearly $1 trillion for state, local and tribal governments; another round of direct payments to individuals, up to $6,000 per family, including to unauthorized immigrants; $200 billion for hazard pay for essential workers; $75 billion for coronavirus testing and tracing; increased spending on food stamps; $175 billion in housing support; student loan forgiveness; and a new employee retention tax credit and extension of unemployment benefits.

Trump threatening to veto! As the economy crashes and he hands out funds to his corrupt cronies, he cuts off funding to regular Americans ?

House Democrats signal they could recess until July 21

House Democrats are preparing to pass a resolution Friday that would set up a recess lasting until July 21.

Lawmakers returned to the Capitol for only the third time since mid-March, when the House recessed due to the threat of the coronavirus.

They will vote on a $3 trillion economic aid package as well as a resolution allowing virtual committee business and proxy voting for the next 45 days unless renewed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat.

I've said it before. Why are teachers lumped in with first responders and why should they be receiving any kind of government handout? Every teacher I know is continuing to get full pay with guaranteed pensions.

What an utterly predictable and nakedly-partisan ploy. Pass some abortion of a bill, then recess while bitching that the Republicans in the Senate are holding things up by not blindly agreeing to this abortion, forcing the matter to wait until July when the House returns for a 3 minute summer non-adjournment adjournment session.

Pelosi is going to bring some ice cream in July.

What's the fuss? No worries.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats have powered a massive $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill through the House, an election-year measure designed to brace a U.S. economy in free fall and a health care system struggling to contain a pandemic still pummeling the country.

Friday’s 208-199 vote, with all but one Republican opposed, advances what boils down to a campaign-season display of Democratic economic and health-care priorities. It has no chance of becoming law as written, but will likely spark difficult negotiations with the White House and Senate Republicans. Any product would probably be the last major COVID-19 response bill before November’s presidential and congressional elections.

Nancy Pelosi’s $3 trillion coronavirus ‘relief’ bill is purely a political stunt

New York Post, by Editorial

Original Article

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is happy to play rank politics with the federal coronavirus response.

Exhibit A is the absurd $3 trillion “relief” bill she’s set for floor vote on Friday. It’s the first emergency bill written by one party with zero input from the other.

Some Dems say it’s just an “opening bid,” but why waste time crafting 1,800 pages of legislation full of poison pills for the opposition?

It seems Pelosi thinks virtue-signaling to her base is worth the trouble. The bill is packed with junk that has nothing to do with the pandemic or the economic chaos the response to it has created.

It will likely arrive right behind your examples of thousands of people in Nazi regalia flashing white supremacy signals at Trump rallies.
