I just don't know what is considered #1 anymore.  Does he need to be tall? or does he need to be fast?  Do we want super big plays down the field?  Or are you looking for someone who can catch the ball and make a ton of plays.  I think Jefferson could easily compare to a player like Keenan Allen as much as Landry.  Baldwin... Adams... These guys aren't super fast or super big but they're super productive because they can a- get open b- good hands c- make contested plays on the ball.

I hear ya.  For me, it’s more about what do we need... My opinion, but one I’m sure the FO has taken into consideration after the Playoff Game, is someone who can get separation and make contested catches consistently.

Duke doesn’t get a ton of separation, but can make contested catches albeit, not consistently, as he dropped a TD in that game.

Brown gets separation but isn’t making contested catches.  Same with Beasley.

Allen needs to take another step, of course, but he also needs guys who help him out.  That playoff game was about as frustrated as I’ve ever been at a WR group.

There isn't a guy in free agency who is doing that consistently - its a hard trait to find.  Rookies can struggle out of the gate at this position too.

I wouldn't be opposed to a corner or hybrid safety if the player is right.  Even a speedy linebacker would be fine.

No he shouldn't.

He is Landry. That is exactly my view. I am not sure he will ever be a true #1 receiver.

he'd be an upgrade over cole.

Yes I think potentially he would. He could be a top 2 or 3 slot receiver. But it is not a huge upgrade. I'd have to feel he was the BPA to take that at #22. And I don't. So I wouldn't.

I’m not sure I understand you,  you sound a little wishy washy, maybe you could more fully express yourself...

That is exactly where I have him ranked too.  He is my #8 WR.

Well his tape when he plays outside does not compare well to any of those guys. If you are going to make the #1 argument the best one to make is Edelman. He has arguably been the Pats #1 guy from the slot as Welker was before him. If Jefferson is your #1 you are throwing to your slot guy a LOT.

Just curious what your WR rankings are since you and I seem to see things pretty similarly in general. I think we view Jefferson mostly the same way but I'd still be willing to consider him in the first round. Not my preferred choice but I think he's worth considering based on who will likely be available at 22.

I think all 3 are gone by 17.

Certainly possible, but I still think a run on other positions will push at least one down.  Now that could mean a team tries to leap frog both us and Philly to get one of those 3 too.

First off to everyone saying he reminds them of Zay, this kid is wildly productive with LSU not East Carolina. He played tough competition in the SEC. Production in that conference matters. Ruggs and Higgins would be better pure outside choices but Jefferson could can play outside and inside. That was what Andre Reed did. I think we already learned that is not John Brown’s game so you need that Swiss Army knife positional WR that can line up anywhere.

If we dont pick him, be assured the Pats will and he will kill us as their new weapon.

I like Justin Jefferson.  And I understand that Wide Receiver is probably our biggest need.

But I'm really thinking the Bills should stay-away from taking a WR at #22.

As has been mentioned many times, this WR class is ridiculously deep.  There are probably 7-8 guys of very similar value, who will be available from the late 1st Round and may even last until our 2nd Round selection.  Is Jefferson that much better than Laviska Shenault, Tee Higgins, Jalen Reagor, Brandon Aiyuk, K.J. Hamler, Michael Pittman or Denzel Mims?  I don't think so.

The smart way to play this is either taking a different position at #22 (value at OT, DE and CB drops off quite a bit after the first group of guys), trade back and take a WR a few picks later, or just wait until the 2nd Round.  If it looks like teams are making a run on the above guys and they won't last until #54, then Beane can always package a mid-rounder and move up a couple slots.

I would not mind as one of the second tier WR guys if none of the top edge or OT are on the board.

this is called pushing talent up the draft board, Doug

Not sure Ruggs is nothing more than Tavon Austin.

I have to hear your reasoning for this comment as it is not even close to being an apt comparison

If we're not gonna move up and get Lamb, I think we could trade back a couple a few spots and still get Jefferson, while adding another second or early 3rd. This way we'll add a, mims, claypool, Pittman, Tyler Johnson, Bryan Edwards after we snag a linebacker/edge in second. We need to double down in the first 3 rounds on reciever, to add the quality we need.
