I think some ppl dont understand what the job of a one tech are

I think most understand the role pretty well. I also think it's reasonable to expect a 1-T to make some plays along the way. My hunch is that Harrison would rack up some tackles, TFL's, and even sacks over the course of a season, even at 1-T; something our current 1-T fails to do.

I am not exactly a star fan....I think he does his job and not above that and I would like better (that is why I would like to make the play for DJ Reader)

and of course rooting for Horrible Harry.....but he is coming off a major injury

I think this is another testament to how much the Pegulas have put into advancing the sports medicine element of things. To me that is going to be a staple in not just attracting players, but also with retaining players.

These guys understand that durability/availability is the key to them getting paid. Well, by all accounts Buffalo is one of the foremost teams in regards to facilities now, and their investment in overall sports medicine.

Glad to see Harry on the right track to get back and get healthy. That being said, if we can still land a guy like Reader, I do it all day.

Really? Because it sure seemed like our run defense took a nosedive after he tore his ACL. Also, he was mainly in a rotation with Star @ 1-Tech. You see more interior double teams and are basically a space eater. Jordan Phillips and Ed Oliver were manning the 3-Tech. That is the place where you get most of your disruption from. This is what Harrison Phillips did in college as a penetrating DT.

Pretty sure 17.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks require pressure to stop people behind the LOS. I also believe it's part of the reason we are interested in Reader and will wind up letting JP walk. Harry is gonna be kicked over to the 3-Tech along with Oliver.

To be fair, numbers are contextual. The same way, we can point out JP sack numbers, when in reality, JP was more of a right place at the right time, oppose to generating pressures him self.

Moreover, some of the scouting reports on HP coming out where that he lacked the juice (so-to-speak) to be a true 3 tech.

It's entirely possible. If we sign someone, they will slide Harry over, but I would think they would maybe use him across a couple different fronts depending on situations.

I wonder how poor field and good facilities affect opinion of players especially those who may have had lower leg issues.

I think it is impossible to say....I will say that it looked like HH was outplaying Star before he got hurt (at least to my eyes)

I think the plan was to have Harry rotate and compete with star last year than have him take over this year if he showed he was capable. The injury postponed this if he has a solid offseason it wouldn't surprise me to see them move Star around pre season, especially with the free agent signings of D lineman. Im going to go ahead and say Beane will grab another 5-6 round pick before the season starts.

It will be interesting to see what the aquisition of Vernon Butler does to the rotation.....

For me, Butler to Buffalo was the most interesting free agent addition in the NFL. He's built like a prototypical run-stuffing nose tackle, has the pass-rush potential for annual sacks in the high single digits, and could elevate a top-5 defense to historical dominance. Is he a late bloomer or just a one-year wonder? Was his one-year wonder situation because he played as a 3-4 NT? Will he struggle again in a 4-3? Will the Bills be using more 3-4 looks? I like Phillips, Star, and Jefferson a lot. But to me, an Oliver-Butler 4-3 DT pairing has the highest potential for greatness.

I though Henry was going to have a breakout season last year. After he got hurt the team suffered that bad run defense stretch and I think the two were at least in part related. Phillips will hopefully be allowed to come back at his own pace as this team runs 5 deep at DT. I think he can log 30% of defensive snaps by the end of the season.

big expectations for this guy

he is a baller and was a unfortunate loss last season as he looked like one of the best players on the team during training camp tbh. hope him and Oliver kill it this year

My only concern is that sometimes guys never come back from a big injury the same way or they take a year to fully come back. My expectations are that he might take a year to come back.

Fully agree that's why I think expectations for him should be tempered. He should be worked in as a rotational player slowly.
