jwhit34 Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Though you have to take all the lists with a skeptical eye, it seems pretty consistent that the Bills' free agents to be are not ranked very high: Shaq Lawson is usually in the 75-90 range of the top 100 Jordan Phillips doesn't make most list and if he does he's in the 90s I didn't see Quinton Spain on any top 100 list and is well down the list of guards It only takes one team to be interested but it would appear that all of the Bills' free agents will be at best 2nd tier types and may be waiting for a couple days to get the type of offers they may be hoping for. There seems to be a lot of D linemen on the market which may drive down prices for Lawson and Phillips. My guess at this point is that 2 of 3 are on the 2020 Bills and most likely Lawson and Spain which I would be good with. 2
gjv001 Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 I'm hoping we are able to retain all three of the players you listed. 1
ngbills Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 It is an example of Bills fans know and watch these guys play every week. We read the articles about how they are doing this or that. Reality is there are players like this on every team. They are above average contributors on any just about any team. They will get paid slightly above average from someone. J Phil is the one guy I could see some team overpaying for because they are more desperate.

I think your observations here are spot on.. I’ve never seen Spain listed once in these articles and JP rarely mentioned.. As you said, you can’t read to much into that though, and I’m sure that both will receive offers from other teams.. Going to be interesting to see this one unfold over the next few weeks.. I hope the Bills can offer both Spain and JP competitive terms and they remain... I’ll throw a guess and say Phillips at $8M a year and Spain at $6M a year on three year deals could get it done..If it’s gunna take much more than that I’ll let them go.. I would like to see Lawson come back as well, but I think he will move on..
Saxum Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 It all comes down to 2 factors: Hope and Desperation. If a team has hope that a free agent is on the rise they may over pay. if a player does not get a contract in first few weeks their will be desperation that they will not get a large contract and will take contracts agents will often recommend against.
below Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 I think Spain is a goner because they have Spencer Long. Long was signed to be a starter but Spain fell into our laps at a bargain price. . They aren't going to give Spain a multi-year deal with a viable starter already on the books. To say nothing of the possibility, remote as it may be, of Ford moving to guard.
H2o Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 I can live with letting Spain walk, moving Ford to LG, and addressing RT in FA. I want Lawson back because he's turned into a solid all-around player. Phillips, if he's here he's here. If he's not we can get by fine. He's not that great against the run. 1
Logic Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 (edited) I think the two most lucrative deals we will see handed out to Bills FAs will be to Kevin Johnson and Quinton Spain. I don't think Jordan Phillips will get what he's seeking. Shaq Lawson might do alright on the open market, too, but I expect the Bills to re-sign him. Edited February 21, 2020 by Logic

I could see him making a bit of decent money, possibly here. I'd guess you might be wrong about Jordan Phillips. I think he's going to be overpaid by someone with stars in their eyes. We'll see.
