Florio on DP show: Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wants Joe Burrow and has the draft capital to make it happen

I like Joe Burrow, and I think he will be a Franchise QB, but Miami has a heck of a lot of holes on that team. They basically need to rebuild the entire OL, need a long term answer at QB, the defense needs major work, and their RB depth chart is full of a bunch of PS players. At the same time Miami owns an insane 13 picks in this upcoming draft, with 6 of those in the first 3 rounds. They have a whopping three 1st Round picks, two 2nd's, and a 3rd. If any team could move up and still have plenty of picks left to maneuver then it's the Dolphins. Who knows what they will do? Who knows what Mike Brown actually wants? One thing I do believe is if they trade out of #1, passing on the homegrown Burrow, then that could be the final nail in the coffin for that franchise. The fans just won't show up or buy any merchandise.

Very interesting audio. Miami has 3 1st rounders and sits at 5. Apparently Stephen Ross is enamored with taking Burrow. Could trade all to Cincy for the 1st pick and Cincy could just take Herbert at 5. Add to that the rumors that Burrow does not want to go to the Bengals. He is training with Jordan Palmer and Carson has been very vocal lately about why he wanted out of the Bengals organization and they weren’t committed to winning a SB. Maybe the Bengals don’t take him if his agent makes an issue out of it, and take another one of the top QBs instead while collecting all the picks.

Kind of funny if Miami just decided to let Rosen play they would have been able to draft Burrow without having to trade anything and still have 2 more picks in round 1.

But then Flores would be on the hot seat heading into year two. His coaching job and level of effort he got out of those scrubs should give that team hope. I think that means more than tanking.

......the first thing you have to do is decide if Joe Burrow is a "franchise" QB.  ....IF the Bengals think that's who he is, there should not be any amount of draft capital that could be offered that you'd ever accept in exchange for that.

QB is the hardest position in team sports to fill.  If you can get the rare guy that lifts up everyone around him and makes you a contender year in and year out for 15 years, you don't trade that guy or his draft rights.

ONLY if the Bengals evaluate Burrow and determine that he isn't that guy....then the bounty they get for that pick, plus the potential to take one of the other QB still as an option, would be smart.  .....either way, the Bengals really need to be right about this pick.

Think of it like this.....the Sh*t show that is the Bengals, was a winning team and was a contender when they had Carson Palmer.  The right QB does that.  Then look at teams that got bounties of picks they took when another team traded up for a QB.....history shows you take the QB.

Not sure if Sileo really knows anything but, blue check mark and all that

If they give up anything serious for a non QB they are going to screw themselves.

Perfect position but can’t let the board fall

to them!? Seen that too many times.

If true —This says they want Tua, if they go to 2. Sounds like Cincy already saying they are unwilling to trade and  Burrow will be gone. Trying to get ahead of anyone who would trade with Detroit.

Blehhhhh. They are already convinced he is the guy? Ok, If so the move makes sense. I always said that about Buffalo and applauded when they did it for Allen.

Find your guy and stop at nothing to get him.

Or it could be a move like the Jets made in ‘18. Maybe don’t know who your guy is yet but get in best possible position to take whoever you want. The caveat is you might be able to get that guy at 5. But I guess jump everyone early before they get jumped.

Riskier this year, unless they  love the QBs that most people don’t. The second and third best QBs in this draft could both still be on the board when they pick. If not, at least one of them will be and is there really that much of a gap?

Feels like they are flexing their draft capital a bit and it’s going to set them back. Good for us though.

Yeah, they have those picks because they got rid of pro bowl level talent at LT and safety. Need to replenish. I don’t know if any of these QBs are worth 3 1sts but who knows.

On the other hand - maybe they are positioning themselves for Chase Young and will take the QB next year. I wouldn’t want Chase Young there as a Bills fan.

Exactly.  Drafting Burrow requires a trade by Miami with Cincinnati, and that trade requires willingness on the part of Cincinnati.  The owner of the Browns has a mind of his own.

Haslem is an idiot.

Isn’t Cincy basically Kentucky as well? Just a decent 3 wood away after all.

Kinda.........it's the beginning of the South, I can tell you that. And you'll need a bomb driver shot over the Ohio River, it's pretty wide for a 3-wood.
