My boss is very politically connected throughout the state, and has been for a long time. He once remarked that all previous NY governors, even if they weren't directly approachable, had at least some backdoor way to directly communicate/lobby. Not Emperor Andrew. His inner circle is airtight. There is no possible way to get a message to him about anything without going through his handlers.

To jump in...a friend is in the NY AG's office, worked with Spitzer and Cuomo.  He's a very smart guy, liberal generally but I respect his feedback on most things. At the time, he told me that Spitzer is like the know-it-all in class, always with his hand up, always tossing his two cents in, etc.  He suggested though that Spitzer might surprise me as a governor, a guy with some big ideas and a plan.  I decided to go all in and support the guy once elected--and have quite a bit of fun busting my friend's chops since then.  He's not a fan of Cuomo generally, but thinks he's done a good job with the virus, something we disagree on.  I also asked him how the $$#@% Schneiderman was able to thrive with his problems---all about political connections.  Another guy I know pretty well hates Cuomo with a passion.  He was pretty high up in the facilities management at the state.  He told me a story about a custom boardroom table Cuomo ordered at a cost of $18,000.  He didn't like it when it was delivered, rejected it and ordered a second version.  Problem was--it was custom made an non-returnable.  General feedback on Cuomo--a miserable and condescending prick.

I worked with David Patterson for a while on some issues starting with his Lt. Gov stint.  On one occasion I met him at his house, and spent about an hour talking about a variety of topics.  When he became governor I had to stop by the Mansion, met with his wife (also a very nice lady) and I politely declined when offered a tour of the mansion.  She did show me, however, the pool house built specifically for FDR so he could exercise when in Albany.  The pool house remains as it was in those days, and putting aside politics just for a minute, it was very overwhelming to think I was standing where one of the most influential figures in the history of the world had spent considerable time.

San Antonio City Council Passes Resolution Condemning Hate Speech, Use of the Term “Chinese Virus”

Civil Society Local News-The Texan Daniel Friend May 8, 2020

The San Antonio City Council unanimously passed a resolution condemning the use of the term "Chinese virus," saying that it "encourages hate crimes and incidents against Asians."

The San Antonio City Council unanimously passed a resolution introduced by Mayor Ron Nirenberg condemning hate speech toward Asian, Pacific Islander, and Jewish communities.

“COVID-19 is a public health issue, not a racial, religious or ethnic one, and the deliberate use of terms such as ‘Chinese virus’ or ‘Kung Fu virus’ to describe COVID-19 only encourages hate crimes and incidents against Asians and further spreads misinformation at a time when communities should be working together to get through this crisis,” reads the resolution.

At the city council meeting on Thursday when the resolution was introduced, only one member of the public commented on it.

Looks like 3 NYS regions will start reopening Friday.

Rochester First Article

Even though retail is reopening in Ra-cha-cha/ Finger Lakes & 2 other regions, the retail reopenings are only for curbside pickup / delivery.  But that's better than nothing.

Guess it's good to have Bob Duffy on the reopening commission.

OK, Genesse county is opening... Batavia, here I come. For what? I don't know. Just because I can. ?

Oh, I know! They will have hair salons open far sooner than Erie county, so the day they are allowed... BAM!! Loyalty-smoyalty! My bangs are hanging in my eyes.

I wonder if 80's hairstyles will come back as people get used to having scruffy long hair.

One guy at work is rockin' a 70's porn-stache and no one is giving him $#@! about it.

Funny you should say that... my uncle sent me some photos from 1980 and 1981 the other day, and wow was my hair long. I don't think it is any shorter right now.  Shesh

I feel like curbside pickup only rules cut down significantly on peoples’ impulse purchases.  Great for peoples’ pocketbooks... not so good for retailers.  Haha

I'm not sure if I should be offended that they're trying to claim that Wyoming and Genesee Counties are in the "Finger Lakes Region", or happy that we're finally getting to open ***** back up.

If they wanted to declare Erie county to be "Finger Lakes Region" so we could reopen Friday, I'd gladly go along with it.
