  1. 1. To Taysom or not to Taysom that is the question...

    • I would welcome Taysom with open arms
    • Taysom Hill is trash and should retire with Brees

I would bet a large sum of money that Sean Payton does not view Hill as Brees' successor.

Love what he brings to the game, but he's not a "quarterback."

I wouldn’t make that bet if I were you. I’m not saying that the Saints would just hand him the keys but he’s absolutely an option. They are incredibly high on him. That’s not lip service from them either.

Sean Payton saw some of the things Lamar was able to do and could tailor an offense in a similar manner. Before someone says, “but Lamar is so fast” keep in mind that Taysom is a 4.4 (faster than Kamara and Michael Thomas). Pretty sure he’d be the 2nd fastest QB in the league behind only Lamar. He isn’t just a if bodied guy. He’s an explosive athlete.

Yeah this is basically where I land. I think the Saints are just trying to hype him up so they can get more compensation in return for him. I’m gonna go ahead and call BS on the idea that they view the 30 year old backup to their backup as a franchise QB. Aside from the one flukey bomb he completed, they’re basically petrified of ever letting him throw the ball in one of the most QB-friendly systems in the league.

I try to buy it but why didn’t he get more reps? Especially with drew out?

My answer to that is the Saints thought they were a Super Bowl favorite. Drew went out in week 2 so this was before Lamar changed the league. I don’t think Payton was trying to experiment too much. He was hoping Teddy would hold down the fort (which he did).

If they ever make the move to Taysom I believe that it will come with a semi-reset. I don’t think that’s this year either. I could see Taysom get worked in a little more as a QB this year with Teddy going elsewhere (which I suspect). They can run a Taysom package 5-10 plays a game and he would also serve as the number 2. That would give them the chance to get a deeper look at him as a QB and expand the offense with some of those Lamar elements.

Assuming they put a 1st round tender on him my answer is Hell No! We have our QB already.

He would be backup QB, FB, RB, Special Teams extraordinaire, H back, TE, wait what can't he do?!?!

Play any of those positions full time? “A jack of all trades is a master of none".

Yes i would take him as a backup QB in a heartbeat

He is not just a backup QB. He is a gamechanger. Might be the Saints' fans' favorite player (even ahead of Brees).  Just a "do it all" missing piece. With our cap space - I would be aggressive here - but... I doubt the Saints will ever not match.

I’m not a fan of a player who is an “athlete” and doesn’t fit the mold of a traditional position player.

DiMarco likes to describe himself like that.

The “slash” type of player has never really caught on. There’s probably a reason.

Taysom would be a great addition to our special teams unit.

I'm not interested.  Not that I wouldn't like to have a player that can do multiple things and throw off a defense - it's just that I would want that type of player on a cheap contract.

They are just nothing alike though. DiMarco is a plodding, part-time FB. Taysom, is 6’2” and 221 lbs.  He runs a 4.44. He scored 6 TDs on 19 catches and averaged almost 6 yards a carry on the ground!! He’s an explosive athlete. DiMarco is closer to Star than he is to Taysom.

Slash is available, and cheaper.

Remember when half the board went wild for Brad Smith?  Yeah, good times...

Anyway, the Saints have a backup QB who is actually a QB.

Hill's season (264 Offensive snaps)...

Passing: 4/7 for 105 yards. 0 TD

Rushing: 27 carries for 156 yards. 1 TD

Receiving: 19 catches for 238 yards. 6 TDs.

50 touches.

He's like Christian McCaffrey if McCaffrey only played 2 games a year.
