Deaths closer to flat week on week as DE had a data dump. Still one of the first week-week deaths flat days in a long time. Could be all these cases catching up. Could just be a daily blip.

Have you heard anything about air conditioning spreading this?

Originally saw this in Epoch Times, didn't post the link because of the paywall. Here is an excerpt:

The CCP Virus has mutated, and the new strain now spreading in Beijing is allegedly more infectious and more deadly than the previous strain. This is according to data released by China’s CDC, which posted three sets of virus sequences, all of which carry the mutation known as D614G. According to Caixin, previous research has shown the mutation could make the virus twice as contagious, and that it may make the virus more deadly as well.

Similar claims are being made by researchers at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida. CNN reported the researchers “believe they have shown that the new coronavirus has mutated in a way that makes it more easily infect human cells.” Scripps Research virologist Hyeryun Choe said in a statement, “Viruses with this mutation were much more infectious than those without the mutation in the cell culture system we used.”

Here is a link to a variation of the article, although it does not mention the China connection...

https://www.wdbj7.com/2020/06/22/mutation-may-make-coronavirus-more-infectious/

D614G has been the dominant variant since March.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-06-mutation-coronavirus-infect-human-cells.html

Strains of SARS-CoV-2 with the D614G mutation have grown to dominate over time. Data from GenBank, a repository for the genetic study of viral samples worldwide, found no SARS-CoV-2 sequences containing D614G in February. But by March, the mutation had appeared in one-quarter of all sequences, and by May it appeared in 70%, the team noted.

This is the scientist who was fired in Florida.

Florida is down to 64 deaths from 80 earlier today on Worldometer.

Coincidence, I'm sure.

So the hot weather could actually be causing more cases as people stay inside with AC more?

SE TX ICU bed usage for Covid is at 585 beds from 354 just a little over 1 week ago. At that pace, they will reach their ICU capacity in 1 week, surge capacity a week or so after. Just by the numbers and maybe there are other places they can put patients. Really good TX regional hosp data site:

https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2020/06/16/this-dashboard-tracks-the-daily-hospital-capacity-for-general-icu-beds-in-the-houston-area/

AZ hospitalizations are up over 100% since the month started:

image.thumb.png.47a42b9f7cfc9c830688d6903a7138bc.png

with AZ ICU beds in use for Covid patients also up substantially since the month started (80%ish).

https://www.azdhs.gov/preparedness/epidemiology-disease-control/infectious-disease-epidemiology/covid-19/dashboards/index.php

FL seems to be lagging on hospitalizations but given the TX and AZ situation, it would be surprising for it to have a different path, though it's possible.

https://tallahasseereports.com/2020/06/22/two-charts-show-positive-trends-for-florida-in-coronavirus-battle/

The FL hosp data that I can find kind of sucks balls. Not sure if there is a better spot that gives beds in use and capacity. I don't trust all the random twitter graphs.

Whew! It's getting very heated in here again.

I want to take a step back for a minute. An olive branch moment, if we will. I will delete a few recent posts on my own free will.

Miami Dade 'walking back' Corona Deaths to political pressure. Yet a month ago Colorado reeled back it's death count on it's own.

Colorado is a clear swing state.

I noted and provided sources that NYS had thousands of 'Corona Deaths' where the dearly departed were not even tested for COVID,

now people are questioning NYS numbers.

How were senior centers and assisted living centers and their residents affected? How did that affect COVID treatment to those infected?

Did this impact the numbers? What of the human cost?

It is clear that COVID and it's handling has become politicized.

It is also clear that COVID has been monetized, why wouldn't a hospital, limited in what it could do, report inflated COVID numbers to meet payroll?

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/apr/21/facebook-posts/Fact-check-Hospitals-COVID-19-payments/

I work for a University/Hospital system that is facing a 150-300 million dollar shortfall for the last quarter. We have Oncologists/ Cardiologists/ nurses/IT on rotating furloughs due to empty wards. The irony of the whole thing is that government mandated restrictions on services for COVID has decimated the ability (worse than 1 in 10 actually) of medical and support staff available to treat cancer/ heart disease/ kidney disease/ compound fractures etc due to the restrictions on what procedures can and can't be done. It has nearly bankrupted us and has exposed many people to unnecessary risk.

COVID numbers are up, screams the MSM.

What COVID numbers? Infections/ positive tests results as things open up? Or is it hospitalizations in limited resource situations? Or is it COVID deaths? What numbers?

THE NEWS IS SUPPOSED TO EDUCATE. Not fear monger, or cover things up. When societal issues arise the media is supposed to help frame and define the issue and provide facts so adults can decide things on facts.

It's almost impossible to get through the noise to get to facts any more. And we are tearing each other apart for it.

WE ARE ALL LOSING

One source says COVID numbers among minorities is higher because of racism, then a city tells black folks to stop wearing masks for 'inherent racism'

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Let's start with a simple question. One that our law makers and political leaders need to define, and we as citizens must demand that it is defined.

What is a COVID death?

What is a COVID infecton?

What is a COVID Hospitalization ?

What is a COVID death?

After that that, if a COVID number is going up, what COVID number? Where is it happening? Put it into perspective.

Let's speak the same language, adjust the numbers to tell the truth, and then figure out as rational adults what needs to be done.

This could all be clarified if we had a federal definition as to what a COVID hospitalization was, and what a COVID death was.

See above. I'm not debating any of this nonsense until the above is clarified.

Until then I hope people who need medical care (COVID or not) can get it, and people who need to go back to work can.

Texas doubled its bed and cases in the last ~20 days. Now this warning from Gov Abbott yesterday.

"If we were to experience another doubling of those numbers [cases and hosp] over the next month, that would mean that we are in an urgent situation where tougher actions will be required to make sure that we do contain the spread of Covid-19," he said.

This would be a horrible step backwards and make my initial worst case come to pass: An ineffective shut down followed by more shut downs. Staying open was my preferred approach. A very short  shutdown to get PPE ready and make a plan was second. A long effective shutdown an extreme distant third. An ineffective shut down followed by more shutdowns is an absolute worst case, total disaster scenario, especially if we get the pee in the pool scenario where a lack of a national plan now allows cases from the rising states to reinfect the states doing well right as we head to winter.

So come on Texas, AZ and maybe soon FL. The rest of the country wants you to be the canary in the coal mine that lives!

I thought Dr Birx and others said they would be able to contain future spikes from all they had learned and the improved testing? This just keeps reinforcing that the public is being led by the blind. You can’t stay shut down forever and these health “experts” don’t know **** about what is going on.

So that means it is mutating to be more contagious and virulent,  and by nature should burn itself out naturally through herd immunity eventually? If it is this contagious we should reach 70% community exposure pretty quickly no?

I am just amazed at the fact that it is mutating to be more contagious and virulent at the same time. Everything I have read about viruses is that when they mutate they pick up either one attribute or the other, not both. And that when they run into a lack of hosts, they mutate to be more contagious and less virulent, not both.
